Not to be rude to Mr. Gore but...
and I mean no disrespect to him, but he owes us at least 4 years. The election was stolen, and I know those right-wing thugs put his family through hell, but look what hell the WORLD has been put through, because he conceded to that friggin' idiotic chimp. He has to step up and run and we can fix this thing, dammit!

1. He didn't 'concede'
until the SCOTUS ended the vote count.

I do agree that he owes us 4 years though. :)

5. He didn't concede
but many, myself included, thought he could have been more vocal. Now he's fighting--when it's too late.

3. Gore was out of options ...

Thanks to SCOTUS he was in the same place a military leader is when he has the choice of surrendering or dispersing and starting a guerilla war outside the laws of war. That would either destroy the Democratic Party entirely or, at minimum, destroy Gore any those who supported him in this.

Kerry on the other hand...

But, yeah, Gore owes us four years anyway. :-)

4. And which other Dems have stepped up?
Kerry, when he had (at least to my mind) more clear cause?

To my mind the only Dem who has totally stepped up is Conyers.

Just askin'.

7. he fought to the bitter end, God bless him
I have no problems with how Gore handled the end of that race. Mistakes were made--big ones--but nobody can say he didn't stick it out. I'm still steaming over how Kerry asked for money ahead of time for his legal defense fund, knowing there would be dirty work afoot, but rolled over the next day anyway.

I try to be fair and I'll assume there was more to Kerry's concession than the rest of us were privy to, but that one still rankles.

8. A First Step to "Fixing" would be Gore Coming Clean
Because he did concede. And he did have the option of simply opening his mouth and saying "I object."

Consequently, he did not fight to the bitter end and has never said why not.

Maybe he has a good answer. I can't imagine one. But euphemisms like "preserving civility" or "not putting the country through...whatever," simply don't cut it. They don't mean anything. They're just more fodder for the DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy's Mighty Wurlitzer.

Maybe he'll admit to those failures. That would at least be refreshing. And he would certainly be the best person to help the nation begin to walk away from the non-reality haze we've been staggering through since Dec. 12, 2000.

But unless and until he owns up, he can only ask us to go forward with him in dishonesty. And that means he's still part of the problem, not the solution.

I too wish it were not so. That first step into non-reality can seem very appealing. Why not "move on," "get over it," or "pretend it never happened?"

I would hope we all know why.

10. I heard Al Gore interviewed on NPR yesterday evening,
and while he didn't say "Oh fer sure, I'm goin' for it," he made no out-of-hand dismissals, either.

He wants people to be more environmentally aware. It's more than a passion with him.

These last two weeks he's been just about everyplace, seems like. I believe he's real interested in the job. You just might get those 4 years, and maybe 8.
