Newbie Alert!!! Here's the "Moran guy"
Edited on Mon May-29-06 09:44 AM by charlyvi
I've noticed on some threads recently where a newbie or two bemoans the way we spell moron. Well, I guess it's time to showcase our beloved moran guy again; the oldies are the best, huh?

Okay, newbies. Here's why we spell moron as "moran". Enjoy.

36. oooh, grew up in Phoenix
we had this small Mexican food place across from my house--yum!!!!!! I remember in Phoenix, we didn't call it a burrito, it was called a burro. When I moved to California, they called it a burrito. YECH, my first introduction to Taco Bell was in California--I thought at the time-THIS IS NOT MEXICAN FOOD.

And I have to perfect the classic posole recipe; that I'm still working on. And there is NOTHING, nothing, like a New Mexican homemade tamale.

55. In younger days, dad used to bring home tamales made by a co-worker's
mom twice a year when she'd make huge batches to sell. perfection!

Years ago, Whole foods in Chicago sold vegetarian tamales for a time that were excellent.

And Safeway's deli has some that are dry and uninspired, but it's at least something until I can get out of Mayberry and into a good Mexican Resturaunt. The food in New Mexico was frickin' great! There were lot's of inexpensive little mama's-cookin' joints I hit.

Any city that has a large newer immigrant population has excellent, moan-happily-aloud, affordable food. It's one of the reasons I hated to leave Chicago as home-base.

Uh-oh. Have the foodies hijacked this thread?

64. I lived in Boulder County for 11 years and know Whole Foods,
and I know the mass-market Safeway version of the tamale...

But there's NOTHING like a homemade tamale in a real corn husk made by someone who is over 60 in New Mexico. Those people are some of the only ones who are willing to take the time with the masa and the whole process. Tamales are made with LARD. That is a cold, hard fact. The best southern U.S. fried chicken is made with LARD also. Homemade pie crusts are often made with LARD. A lot of soap in the early days was made with LARD also.

When it comes to the tamale, "health food" stores and mass market chains just don't make the grade. ;-)

Safeway deli tamales? Hurl! If you're going to do it, do it right! :hi:

Yes, that's the way they were regularly made in South Chicago, once upon a time. (Mexican-Polish neighborhood.)

And I might also add that real Czarnina contains duck's blood, now that we're facing cold, hard facts! :D

Like I say, I live in "Mayberry" now.

Ah, but the ethnic food rocks. And within 2 miles of my house I can enjoy excellent Thai, Mexican, Cuban, Indian, Pakistani, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Columbian, Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, French, Greek, Guatamalan, Jamiacan, Nepalese, Persian, Afghani, Morrocan, Turkish... I'm forgetting some but you get the idea.

And is it not written in the Proverbs,
"The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright:
but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness..." ?

(that's just a rhetorical question;
it really _IS_ written there: Chapter 15, verse 2.

The book goes on to make some VERY disparaging remarks about
sarcastic people with silly usernames,
but all the Biblical scholars I know agree
that we can safely disregard those passages as
irrelevant to our modern era.)

12. unfortunately, that's intentional....
Instead of being an accidental misspelling by a moranic Freeper, that's supposed to be a tongue-in-racist-cheek response to McCain for supporting Bush's "amnesty" plan, bringing untermensch immigrants who can't speak English into the US.

Sort of a Mexican version of "Hey, soldja boy, me love you long time. Sucky sucky fibe dollah."

Edited on Mon May-29-06 06:41 PM by Kurovski
http://www.democraticunderground.com/articles/04/09/07_purple.html

"If you think she's just another mindless twit who happened to slap a joke on her chin on her way into the Republican National Convention, think again:

She's known Karl Rove since he was "a youngster."

She's fixed dinner for George W. Bush.

She's also whipped up lunch for that hungry Republican crew of "rioters" in Florida who were determined to stop that nasty ol' vote count from proceeding in the 2000 election.

One of her sons works for Phil Gramm, ex-Republican Senator from Texas, and the other of her sons works for Fred Thompson, ex-Republican Senator from Tennessee."

EDIT: To add an excerpt from the article.

60. Consistent misspellings on FR...
They make fun of it now, but it still happens frequently. It happens here too, but not with the same regularity.

67. This reminds me of a Gary Larsen "Far Side" cartoon
One of Larsen's cartoons was of an empty restaurant with the owner standing at the door obviously wondering why no one was coming in to enjoy the daily special, which was advertised on a large poster-board outside the restaurant: "Filly Steak Special."
Underneath the cartoon it said: "Why Spelling Matters."

Little did I know at the time that the restauranteur was a moran!!!111
