What about not DRIVING anywhere on Memorial Day?
A lot of people here have been saying that the best way to honor the fallen soldiers is to try to prevent future wars that would take more lives. If we don't drive anywhere, we won't be using gasoline. If we don't use gasoline, we won't be consuming from the oil industry. If we don't consume from the oil industry, we lessen the need for crude oil, and the advantage gained by the government and big oil by invading and controlling oil-rich regions. I realize that not driving anywhere for one day won't really change anything, but it's a symbol. And isn't that what memorials are?

3. Works for me!
We live near a PA turnpike interchange. The vacationers are already out there! Seems like no one is staying home this summer, except us!

15. It won't accomplish a thing.
In the grand scheme of things, your idea won't even be noticed by the oil industry or the government. The whole exercise is pointless.

"lost" money.

19. Well, As I Will Be Doing Landscaping/Yard Work All Day...
I'm not likely to be driving anywhere.

I'm going to be shoveling wheelbarrows full of white stone to finish a landscaping project my mom and I have been working on.

Then, if we get that done, I'll have to pull out the weedwhacker, and whack some of the weeds up close to the fence where the riding mower won't go.

It's an electric weedwacker, not gas...okay, folks!!
