Remember when Bush used to constantly talk about mass graves in Iraq?
Why doesn't he do that anymore? Any ideas?

2. The "mass graves" were debunked pretty extensively
about a year after the war started. Not that there weren't any--just the number of bodies that were found.

Rove prolly figured it just drew more attention to the idea of "death" in Iraq and people might get confused who the real killers are.

7. Being debunked hasn't stopped them in the past
We still hear that long debunked myth that the Sudan offered Osama's head on a platter to Clinton 3 times, but was turned down. That was even debunked by Bush's handpicked 9/11 Commission, and they still keep repeating it!

The mass graves - what there were of them - were generally 10-15 years old, if I recall. Back from when Saddam was either our ally or from when we encouraged the Kurds to rise up against Saddam, only to have Poppy Bush turn his back on them.

Now, we have created own our mass graves in Iraq. :(

3. yeah well, he used to talk about WMD hidden all over the country, too...
...and we know how that turned out. The only mass graves I'm absolutely certain of are those of the victims of the U.S., in places like Fallujah.

4. Rumsfeld talked about them on CNN a couple of days ago
It stood out because I hadn't heard them mentioned in a while either.

MR. KING: Is there any doubt that you would still go knowing what you know now?
SEC. RUMSFELD: Look that was the president's decision. I support him. I supported it then and I support him now. There's no question in my mind where Saddam Hussein was going. He was giving $25,000 to the families of suicide bombers. He was harboring terrorists, and he was on the terrorist list. He was shooting at our airplanes every week in the southern no fly zone, where we were enforcing the U.N. resolutions.
And that -- those 28 million people -- he filled mass graves with hundreds of thousands of bodies of innocent Iraqis, and those 28 million people today have a constitution that they drafted. They voted three times, and they've elected a sovereign government, and they are so much better off than they were under that vicious dictator.

5. I noticed a marked decline in him touting the story when...
reports began coming back that many of the graves were filled with the Shia that were killed when poppy encouraged an uprising, then left them high and dry, and schwarzkopf allowed saddamn to keep his armed helicopters, for good measure.

8. Hussein was such a monster that he often used to dump the bodies on
Edited on Sun May-28-06 10:22 AM by applegrove
families doorsteps or some such things. The fact Hussein was a huge mass murdered isn't the issue. There are a few mass graves. Hundreds of thousands died...

The problem is USA didn't seem to want to win this one outright. And they went in deluded as to what it would take or deluded that a long war would be fun. Thousands of people dying these days is much more immediate.. and should be.
