Touch My Face

Don't not just stand there
Touch my face.

I have stood here waiting for you
for decades waiting with the names
of the fallen.

When you touch me,
you will connect with the fallen
the heroes known but to God
forgotten through the mists of time
but not nameless.

These are the forever young
lost to war
far gone from our thoughts
but never beyond our years


Take my names with you
transfer them with tears
to the paper you have in your hands

Take with you the memories of men and women
with their lives sacrificed upon the altar of war

I am The Wall
my cold face warms with your touch
and the names live once again
Touch my face and give us life

I was SF, 69-72.

Navy SEAL assigned to 2nd Marine. Longrange recon, river patrol.

Of the 74 guys I served with, 62 are on that Wall.

By the way, your tome is wonderful.
