1. Their numbers are growing...
If the will of the people is honored at the polls, the nightmare will end. The dirty machines are our last, biggest obstacle.

13. a Memorial Day excerpt ....

....for America's "antiwar majority":

"We must not surrender flag and faith to those who would use both to support a war which honors neither.

"To those who would attempt to silence Americans with the call that “We must support our troops,” we must meet squarely on the issues: The troops are our sons, our daughters, our husbands, our wives. They volunteered to defend our nation, not to pursue a hidden agenda of those who do not honor our nations values. We must never abuse their courage, their patriotism, and their sacrifice..."

Thoughtful, nuanced. It needs immediate inclusion on the Greatest Page.

4. Something to send every caring Repub you know. Great post, brensgrrl!
I tried to find four paragraphs of excerpts that could stand-in for the rest of website. I failed. I urge everyone to absorb the wisdom in these words.

6. Okay. I'm K-ing and I'm R-ing
This is a good one.

And in it are some very good lessons on how to engage the other side in honest debate. Not to change your views, but to see some very common ground.

8. K&R and Bookmarked!
"To those who would attempt to silence Americans with the call that “We must support our troops,” we must meet squarely on the issues: The troops are our sons, our daughters, our husbands, our wives. They volunteered to defend our nation, not to pursue a hidden agenda of those who do not honor our nations values. We must never abuse their courage, their patriotism, and their sacrifice.

To those who insist we must spread liberty: Our founders established our nation as a beacon of liberty. We must never confuse the defense of liberty with the pursuit of an agenda of domination that is offensive to our democratic values and counterproductive to our security, inflaming the passions and determination of those less powerful. "

Nothing to add but AMEN!

10. That site looks like it was written by lefties
"stand with Cindy", is part of it, but it does not have that typical RW style: bombast, Jesus, haughty airs, and a view into the 19th century. I am not making a joke here.

12. My thoughts too
Kind of hard to find genuine. If only conservatives could be so insightful..... It it's real, kudos to the guy.

14. I think it *is* possible to find insightful 'conservatives'
Not all are deluded fundies or hate-obsessed xenophobes ...... or neocons. To say otherwise is to also say that everyone on the left is a commie loon.

I actually believe there are many disaffected Republicans who see what's happening in the country as anathema to their underlying values. That's not to say they'll just stroll over to our side and become Democrats. But it *is* to say that they have some common ground with us. And that common ground is there without us changing one iota of our core values.

I think there's a great deal of introspection out there on the part of Republican voters. For some, it is at the conscious level, with reason and thought. For others, it is happening at a more visceral level. They just 'feel' a need for change.

Some will consider a vote for a Democrat based on reason and an assessment of the issues. Others will make the same choice out of anger or disappointment.

15. I mostly disagree... I think it's mostly impossible for...
... a republican to admit that s/he is wrong.

But we'll see. If there's a substantial change in people's voting behavior, you're right. If not, I am.

It doesn't make one iota of difference what they *say*, if they still vote the same old way - I assume we agree on that?

16. I'm aware of two (very broad brush) classes of Republicans
There are what I'll call 'Rockefeller Republicans'. I think we can all draw some definitional notions from that. Then there are today's 'Mainstream Republicans' who tend to be akin to people who root for the home team but can't name the bullpen coach or the trainer. They believe, but can't articulate why.

I can see the former being instrospective. The latter ... not so much.

17. I agree- from Fukuyama to Andrew Sullivan to various right-wing radio
personalities... the all had public "changes of heart", and not one of them admitted ever having been wrong. They generally say that GW Bush, or the GOP in general, let them down and handled the Great Vision incompetently. But they do not admit error.

In fact, most spend more time lambasting liberals for not stopping them, or not cleaning up their mess yet. The conservative radio host Doug MacIntyre had one of these public mea culpas a few weeks ago, and his was pretty standard. Basically, "I had no idea Bush was lying, you people who say you did are just psychos, we need new... Republicans".
