Study: Saudi Textbooks Still Demonize Christians, Jews
Study: Saudi Textbooks Still Demonize Christians, Jews

POSTED: 6:53 am EDT May 25, 2006

WASHINGTON -- A human rights group said Saudi government textbooks still demonize Christians and Jews, despite Saudi assurances that the books have been purged of religious intolerance.

Freedom House's Center for Religious Freedom has published excerpts from textbooks that are distributed to Muslim students worldwide by Saudi officials.

The center's director, Nina Shea, said first-graders are taught that Jews and Christians are condemned "to hellfire." And a ninth-grade textbook quotes Muhammad as teaching that the hour of judgment "will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them."

1. You can find similar things
in the Saudi Qur'ans that they donated to many US libraries. No wonder we moderates are fighting an uphill battle!

2. maybe we're still providing the books(?)

Washington Post investigators report that during the past twenty years the US has spent millions of dollars producing fanatical schoolbooks, which were then distributed in Afghanistan. "The primers, which were filled with talk of jihad and featured drawings of guns, bullets, soldiers and mines, have served since then as the Afghan school system's core curriculum. Even the Taliban used the American-produced books..." -- Washington Post, 23 March 2002 (1)

According to the Post the U.S. is now "...wrestling with the unintended consequences of its successful strategy of stirring Islamic fervor to fight communism." So the books made up the core curriculum in Afghan schools. And what were the unintended consequences? The Post reports that according to unnamed officials the schoolbooks "steeped a generation in violence."
How could this result have been unintended? Did they expect that giving fundamentalist schoolbooks to schoolchildren would make them moderate Muslims?

4. This just encourages Islamaphobes!
It's exactly this sort of thing that makes Islamaphobe websites pop up all the time. Just the other day, a friend of mine sent me a link to one that claims to welcome people of all faiths, yet it's designed to bash Islam! Don't the idiots who create such sites realize how contradictory their ideas are?? Check it out here.
