MI bill would have citizenship status on drivers license

My husband (who is not a citizen) said that there is a bill being considered that would have non-citizens have the fact that they are not citizens clearly shown on their drivers' licenses.
I guess there is no protection from discrimination for legal permanent residents like my husband? I guess he probably won't be discriminated against too badly because he's white and from a "friendly" country. But what about legal immigrants with darker skin and from less friendly countries?
He heard this on the news on the radio on his way home from work. I can't find a link about it but I'm still looking.
