I don't have anything against the administrators making a living, but is that why you guys started this site? Was that the long range plan? I always thought it was because the Democrats did not have a place to voice their concerns and have them heard when the msm became rw.

Well, anyway...why have ads that promote Republicans? Sounds kind of fishy to me. Can't you choose the ads that you want to have on your own site or does google choose them? Why don't you choose some ads that won't insult your subscribers?

I find nothing fun about that ad, Earl but if it puts money in your pocket, then join the rest of those out to become millionaires. (Did you read about the teenager who made a million dollars in a year with click ads?)

Frankly, the ad turns me off...but...what the hell...I like money too.

Guess this is my last trip to DU. I've been reading here since 2002 but I'm not a big poster or joiner. On the internet anyway.

I have a real problem with this. I've been running a huge traffic drawing site for about 10 years now and I have never once sold my soul to any advertiser. Period. That's called making money off of your visitors and I for one fiond it distasteful. I could probably bring in a couple grand a month by selling google ads on my sites which have about 1/4 the traffic of DU. And I only make 12,000 a year (with two degrees!) but I still won't do it. It's called holding your site visitors hostage and making money off of them.

And even worse, it's google. Se ya DU -- you've been too infiltrated by right wing (paid or unpaid) shit stirreres lately anyway.

Do you avoid newspapers, comics, magazines, movies, and tv because of the ads? Even paperbacks have ads in the back. Over in Shenandoah National Park there are ads on the trail headings in some places. Ads won't be going away anytime soon.

17. There seems to be a fundamental ambivalence in DU's policy,

if posters are not permitted to openly call out Republican operatives, yet they are called upon by a right-wing search engine to click if they are proud to be Republican. It seems being Republican is not the vice that dare not speak it's name, as the ban seemed to imply.

Unless I've misunderstood what's going on, as with Salon, the Neocons have won again. But this time, I think it's likely to be too late. Damage limitation.
