The Dixie Chicks Are Playing The Rednecks Like A Fiddle!
Straight up: I LOVE The Dixie Chicks. They are master musicians and consummate performers who deserve every bit of the success they have had. On top of this, they have a real sense of Right And Wrong--something way too rare in the Nashville music business. Most of our “stars” nowadays would much rather avoid saying what they really think; better for the old cash flow that way. They’re comfortable being a product.

The only accepted way of “speaking out” in the sorry, watered-down world of what passes for Country Music is to Wave The Flag. Stand Up For Murka. Come out and declare that you are FOR Gawd ‘N Country. Lawnorda. The Ten Commandments. Stand with Our President. Support Our Troops. Family Values. The King James Bobble. All them things what has made us a Great Christian Nation. In other words, be a flag-sucking half-wit (thank you, Dr. Thompson).

Woe betide anyone in Nashville who departs from this Holy Writ, especially an Uppity Woman like Natalie Maines who had the temerity to say “We’re ashamed that Bush is from Texas.” Worse yet, she said it in Far Heathen England! The horror! And this whole fucking Christian Nation--that had just spent the previous eight years disrespecting Bill (Lawfully Elected) Clinton--is somehow up in arms that a gal would disrespect bu$h!

Well, you know the rest of that story: the outrage, the bad press, the boycotts, the CD-burnings and the death threats. You might even still be wondering at the irony of an entire Lifestyle Group going apeshit crazy over one little declaration after each and every member of this group had much worse things to say about Clinton every damn day that he occupied that Oval Office. But I digress.

I was appalled when I heard “Not Ready To Make Nice,” the Chicks’ first single three years after The Incident. I am here to tell you that that song had not a Chance In Hell of making it on the charts. That it went as high as #38 surprises me no end. Chick baggage aside, that song was NOT Country. Not Nashville Country or Johnny Cash Country. It violated one of the highest principles of selling: it violated the consumers’ expectations of the product. I wondered why in HELL the Chicks would want that as the leadoff single from their new album. Were they just trying to commit suicide in public? And then for Natalie to shoot her fool mouth off again about how bu$h is not worthy of respect--and on top of THAT to dis The View?!?!? Had these Crazed Bitches taken complete leave of their senses OR WHAT?

No, it ain’t like that at all. I be go to hell if the Dixie Chicks ain’t about to walk to the pinnacle of commercial success (again) right over the dead bodies of the hundreds of thousands of Country Music fans who are talking them down 24/7 these days! Country radio stations from coast to coast are doing polls and call-ins about whether or not their listeners want them to play the Chicks anymore. Talk show hosts are talking about how The Dixie Chicks won’t talk to them. Jesus Harold Christ, they’re on the cover of TIME! Everybody you know is talking about The Dixie Chicks just before they launch a tour. You could not BUY this amount of publicity! The ghost of P.T. Barnum is buck dancing in Perdition. Watch the Chicks sell this tour out. Watch them be embraced by the majority of the country that has come to realize that bu$h is What’s Wrong With America!

Goddess, I hope the Necks hang on to their outrage over The Dixie Chicks the way they’ve cherished and nurtured their hatred of Bill Clinton. It won’t be anything but money in the bank for The Dixie Chicks.

Go, Girls.

2. That should be GAWD Duh N Country. Two syllables in GAWD Duh
At least that is the way the redneck preacher men (and they are always men) say it. "And GAWD-Duh is going to smite the homosexuals with diseases of the body and the mind!"

14. Yes, the redneck preacher pronounciation would be "homosexyulz"
As in "GAWD-Duh will smite the homosexyulz for having carnal relations with one another."

5. Nashville is BLUE! check out the Music Row Democrats.
http://www.musicrowdemocrats.com/

and check out wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashville

Nashville is one of the few major Southern cities that has remained loyal to the Democratic Party. Most local elections are officially nonpartisan. However, Democratic dominance is so absolute that most local races take place between the populist and "good government" wings of the Democratic Party. The "good government" faction has held the upper hand for some time. Unlike Indianapolis, the city-county merger did not significantly alter the political landscape. Elected Republicans are few and far between. At the state level, only two Republicans--one in the State House and one in the State Senate--represent significant portions of Nashville.

Democrats are no less dominant at the federal level. Since the end of Reconstruction, the Democratic presidential candidate has won Nashville and Davidson County in every election but two. In 1968, George Wallace of the American Independent Party carried the city by a surprisingly large margin, given Wallace's opposition to racial integration; Nashville was much more progressive than most Southern cities regarding civil rights for African-Americans, especially under Mayor Beverly Briley. In 1972, Richard Nixon became the only Republican to carry Nashville since Reconstruction, gaining support from many area Democrats. However, since then, Democrats have usually won Nashville by some of the largest, if not the largest, margins in Tennessee. In 2000, Al Gore carried Nashville with over 59 percent of the vote even as he narrowly lost his home state. In 2004, John Kerry carried Nashville with 55 percent of the vote even as George W. Bush won the state by 14 points.

7. They were on Howard Stern this morning
and not only did they sound great, but they are atalireally down to earth and they are on the right side!

They deserve a big apology from this country IMO and believe it or not, Howard Stern humbled himself and gave them a heartfelt apology and did nothing but praise them!

....oh yea, Natalie Maines doesn't wear panties!

12. LOL
I threw that little tidbit in because if you know Howard Stern, you KNOW he wasn't just asking them about politics and music!....and I respect the Chicks even more because they rolled right along with Howards's "questions" and were great sports about the whole thing!
