But he never learned what a paragraph is?....
On May 1, 2006, a van crammed with FIFTY FOUR illegal immigrants were apprehended in San Diego after a wild interstate ride(
http://www.nbc4.tv/news/9139969/detail.html).
After driving over road spikes and going the wrong direction on freeways more than once, the tires finally went out. Fortunately, there were only a few vehicles clipped during their ride, and no injuries were reported. Another fortunate detail is that every passenger AND the driver were apprehended, after they ALL tried running away. While it may not always be the case that fifty four people try coming here illegally in one vehicle, according to Government estimates, between 11 million and 12 million immigrants are believed to be in the U.S. illegally (
http://nie.brownsvilleherald.com/Immigration.htm). Rally after rally after rally has been assembled for people complaining about the Governments proposal of giving illegal immigrants a shortcut to legal status. The interesting thing about that is that the people attending these rallies are the ones who would be getting the shortcut. Apparently they believe that wading/swimming across a river, jumping a fence, and avoiding deportation, for several years in most cases, is the only "test" they needed to take to deserve the title of "U.S. Citizen". Unfortunately, that simply is not enough. We talk about the U.S. being a melting pot of immigrants. I ask...how are we a melting pot if everywhere you turn, everything is offered in both English and Spanish? Recently, Congress decided to make English the official language of this country. Finally! SOMETHING to give us hope that this country means everything that we thought it was. Something I hear a lot of is this, "But the illegal immigrants are doing jobs that Americans won't do. So you're teling me that before illegal immigration became the problem that it is, Americans just weren't doing farm work, construction work, factory work, and any other job that these people are doing? Give me a break. I know, and you know, that without illegal immigrants our country would be just fine. In fact, maybe if we shipped every illegal immigrant home tomorrow, the unemployment rates in many states would drop drastically. In the last couple of years, there has been a lot of talk about creating new jobs for the average American. Well, maybe we wouldn't NEED to create new jobs if the 11-12 million illegal people were where they belong...NOT HERE! Another thing I hear a lot is, "This country was built on immigration. You are an immigrant too." Everytime I see/hear this, I really can't believe they are serious. I don't recall coming here illegally. I don't recall my PARENTS coming here illegally. Not even my GRANDPARENTS came here illegally. And youre try'ing to tell me somehow that there is a connection between my citizenship and your lack of respect for the laws of this country? What people seem to forget so quickly is that this country was built on immigration BEFORE, I repeat BEFORE, there were laws and regulations on how to become a LEGAL citizen. The online IQ test I took said that I was a genius (haha), but I really don't think it takes a genius to figure that one out. One more thing...why...please tell me why, are so many LEGAL hispanic citizens SO offended by our not wanting to be overrun by ILLEGAL immigrants? I have tried to figure it out, and I can't. The ONLY thing I can think of is if it is the children of illegal immigrants who were born here that are scared of their parents being deported.
