I loathe the people who have created this monstrosity. I want the criminals who lied and cheated and pretended and twisted and perverted reality - and those who rationalized their crimes - so they could send over 2400 servicemen and woman to their death, nearly 18,000 to come home torn - some never to be whole again - thousands more to suffer mental damage, and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians to be swept into the garbage can of "collateral damage," to pay. These bastards and their apologists should be stripped naked and forced to walk the main streets of America, allowing every city and town that has lost a loved one to injury or death in this shameful catastrophe to heap on them the scorn they deserve.

John F. Kennedy said America would never start a war. Well, it has now, and its architects have damaged our character, poisoned our standing in the world and soiled the soul of what was once the greatest nation in the history of the world.

3. Mike Farrell rocks!
"These bastards and their apologists should be stripped naked and forced to walk the main streets of America, allowing every city and town that has lost a loved one to injury or death in this shameful catastrophe to heap on them the scorn they deserve."

Indeed. That followed by a one-way ticket to the Hague for the Bush** cabal would really make me believe in America as a just country again.

Thank you, Mike. :toast:

16. There is a problem with wanting Bush to be hauled off to the Hague...
Constitutionally, no American citizen can be extradited to stand trial in a Foreign Court.

It would seem ironic to trash the Constitution to send him the Hague to stand trial for trashing the Constitution.

Impeachment and removal from office is the best we can hope for.

18. If we join the International Criminal Court then *lots* of Amurkans
can be shipped off to stand trial for war crimes. I am ALL for it.

20. I'm all for joining the World Court
It's past time. WAY past time. Never mind it's the right thing to do for a country so proud of its "moral imperative".

26. It is a horrible thing to campaign on...
UN, World Court are both issues that keep a lot of moderate voters away from voting for a Democratic candidate. During the debates I winced to hear the words, "Global Test" come from Kerry's mouth. America equal to all with never sell like America better than all.

28. We MUST end this insane belief that America is better than all.
I know it does not sell well to head-swollen, xenophobic, power-hungry, fearful-to-the-core US citizens. And, if we do *not* break through to them that we must STOP this imperialist insanity we are dooming our nation and the world to economic disaster, environmental disaster,...

I know Americans are sick with PRIDE -- it is a sign of insanity that we do not see ourselves for who and what we really are. It is a sign of moral irresponsibility that we let the corporate media and government LIE to us about the true nature of our foreign policy. Don't you blame the German people who 'let the Third Reich' kill innocent Jews, homosexuals, Gypsy's and political dissidents? The US War on the Third World has killed over 6,000,000 people in Vietnam, Laos, Iraq, Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, East Timor... Americans are SICK with PRIDE when we should, in fact, feel no pride at all at what we allowing to happen.

I teach IntroPsych - and while teaching the section on Social Psychology, I ask students what proportion of the world's population we (the US) comprise. I showed this pie charts this semester that showed the US population as 16%, 12%, 8%, and 4% of the world's population. The goofball fratboys in class all chose the 16% pie chart and hooted and cheered while so doing. Bloody idiots. The US population is less than 5% of the world's population. I think humility is in order.

Better than all? Bullshit.

And, yes, I do like to hear what I expect to hear and what makes me feel good about myself. Unless I have cancer and need to do something about it immediately or I'll die. Unless my car has a problem that will kill me unless I do the expensive repair. We are in a life-or-death situation. TRUTH and nothing but the truth.

29. Well, I fall in the Rah! Rah! USA! USA! crowd.
I immigrated here. I CHOSE to become an American citizen. I can't put into words how much I love America. It is a hell of a lot better than where I came from. Better than the places I saw in the Military.

Should we run rough shod over everyone? NO! We should not. Should we subject our selves to be dictated to by a body outside of our borders? No.

Just my view. It bears no more weight than anyone else's view. The UN and World Court or never going to get overwhelming support in a fashion to sweep anyone into office. It would probably chase people away from the candidate that mentioned it. It certainly is not the one issue that will win us a majority in the House and Senate.

30. People who LOVE America - often aren't acting with love for America...
"My country right or wrong" is just f*'ed up.

My country, when right, to support, when wrong to be put right. I know you believe that this nation does need to be 'put right' or you would not be hanging out here at DU.

The belief that the UN (or some other power) should not dictate to us from outside our borders is a COVER UP for the truth: The US will *not* follow any rules that aren't in it's favor. The US is a law-breaking, human-rights abusing nation.

> The Kyoto Treaty - rip it up.
> The Geneva Convention - dip it in the toilet with the holy book of another religion.
> Treaties to control weapons - HA! Build more if it is good for the economy.
> Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, secret CIA prisons in Eurasia...

We've got to get control of corporations that are breaking laws, the US military and CIA that are 'intervening' on behalf of the corporations.

It isn't possible to feel love for anyone or any entity that you cannot know with complete honesty. This country is doing *wrong* and going *wrong* now - loving the country means telling the WHOLE truth and doing something to change it.

35. More small business opportunities...
better educational opportunities. A REAL energy policy. Small stuff really. Bush is not the best thing that ever happened to the USA, but I don't think that we have slid to an Escape From New York level, either. If impeachment does not come about (I am not betting on it), Bush will be gone before the end of January 2009, but I will still be here. America will be here.

Jobs. Real jobs, not jobs mandated by the government but by market forces which do much better than government mandates anyway. My own company had grown tremendously because I can't keep up with all the new work. If the government stuck it's nose in it, they would just fuck it up.

7. Very powerful commentary..
"I cringed at the gore, was sickened by the death, wept at the frustration and resignation of the medics, at the faith of the chaplain, at the simple, shocked, blank expressions on the faces of kids younger than my son – victims of this fool's war."

I think everyone in America should watch 'Baghdad ER'...maybe it would wake up some of the "Fools".

17. Mike is holding back - he knows the US has started many wars...
Mike Farrell is a long-time outspoken activist against US military and CIA adventures and their impact on our world.

Killing Hope: US Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II.

If you flip over the rock of American foreign
policy of the past century, this is what crawls out ...

invasions ... bombings ... overthrowing
governments ... suppressing movements
for social change ... assassinating
political leaders ... perverting
elections ... manipulating labor unions ...
manufacturing "news" ... death squads ...
torture ... biological warfare ...
depleted uranium ... drug trafficking ...
mercenaries ...

It's not a pretty picture.
It is enough to give imperialism a bad name.
