Penn to Play Clarke in Movie
May 17, 2006 4:57 PM

Christopher Isham Reports:

Former White House counter-terrorism official Richard Clarke, now an ABC News consultant, will be portrayed by Sean Penn in the Sony film of Clarke's "Against All Enemies." The book chronicles what happened inside the White House leading up to and through the 9/ll attacks. The film will be directed by Paul Haggis.

User Comments

If anyone does a film about the run up to 9/11 and doesn't mention John O'Neill - then it is a complete waste of time.

John O'Neill - former FBI anti-terror agent who did all he could do to warn US Govt about pending attacks but was ignored. Quit the FBI to work as head of security at twinb towers and tragically died on September 11, 2001 when the towers collapsed.

3. Isn't Sean Penn a little too young to play Clarke?
There's always makeup, I suppose.

6. I guess we think alike
great minds, and all.

I was thinking more along the lines of Robert Duvall?

In Hollywood, with makeup, that's nothing.

Right. Maybe not 'weighty" enough, in an acting sense?

12. There's an AWESOME PBS Frontline show profiling John O'Neill.
He had the most ironic death of all time.

Fought in his career to uncover and fight Al Qaeda and then died in the attack on the WTC after the FBI gave him the boot/cold shoulder.

If President Clinton is cast, I think David Morse should play the part:

19. Remember that he's an Oscar winner.
Most of the working actors in Hollywood can't say that. So he has all the credentials he needs.
