Is the worst thing that could happen to Democrats to win in November?
That's what I keep hearing on TV tonight. "If the Democrats win the House in November, they'll shut down the government with impeachment and scandal hearings. That will make it harder for them to win the White House in '08" "The last thing that Hillary Clinton wants to do is run along side Speaker Pilosi." Etc., etc.

The difference, of course, between now and when Clinton was in office and the Republicans did it to him, is that Clinton's favorability ratings were in the 60-65% range, while Bush's are at 30%. America liked Clinton, they don't like Bush.

I can imagine any sane person NOT wanting the Democrats to win and take over one or both of the Houses this fall. I DON'T want the Bush Administration to get out of this unscathed.

2. In some ways winning in December
could be terrible for Democrats, but NOT because they'd shut down government with impeachment hearings. No, the problem is that then they'd be blamed totally for the mess Bush and the Republicans have gotten us into.

Aside from the fact that I'm convinced the next election will also be stolen, we are already in so deep that it's going to be years, and years before we get out of this mess. And perhaps it would really be best for Republicans to remain in control for a few more years so that they can truly self-destruct in a spectacular way. Oh, I realize this means that thousands more of our fine soldiers will die, and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and possibly Iranians and who knows else, and that millions will see their retirement savings go up in smoke, but I'll be god dammed if I'm willing to take one shred of blame for any of it.

3. Insane is right. I can think of no reason why Dems wouldn't want 06 wins.

4. Judiciary, Judiciary, Judiciary
No matter how slim our margins - this is the killer issue. Even more important than impeachment and other hearings in my opinion.

Those who look only to 2008 are missing this important issue.

5. The worst thing that would happen to America would be for them to lose
We have an out of control President and a rubber stamp Congress. If some Democrats are in fact, backing off on the will to win in order to play some cheap political game then frankly, shame on them.

6. The worst thing that could happen is impeachment proceedings
would destroy the repub party and a 3 rd party not beholden to corporations could stand a chance.

7. I guess this is the new "Dems want to take away your guns and Bibles!"
It is a play to the worst fears of the dim witted sect.

9. Yes it would be...
but not in the way suggested by the media.

It would be the worst thing that could happen to democrats because THEY will get blamed for all the problems Bush has caused, and THEY will have to fix them, likely causing even more abuse from the media. It would be far better for the Democrats to sit back and let Bush destroy America so that NO ONE is in doubt that he is the worst President ever.

That would be EASY. You couldnt blame the Dems for anything. It would be ALL the Republicans fault.

BUT, it wouldnt be right. So Dems will have to sacrifice themselves, subjecting themsleves to abuse for things they did not create but have no choice but to fix, for the good of the country - including those "backwash" Republicans that will try and blame Dems for the problems.

It is the worst thing that can happen to the Dems, but the BEST thing that could happen to the US and the world in general. And it is the kind of selfless act that the Republican party could NEVER do.
