IT'S A SETUP. Bush briefing both full intelligence committees on spying.
Here's a prediction...

The Repukes have chimed up lately on how "Democrats are not serious about fighting terror" in regards to the uproar over the Big Brother totalitarian spying activity of King Chimp. So, now Bush reverses himself and 6 years of policy by briefing the full House and Senate Intelligence Committees about his activities. Why would he do this?

I tell you why. The Repukes need demonstrable evidence that "Dems are soft on terror" for the upcoming mid-term elections. What better way to do that than to set up the situation where Dems are briefed about the NSA programs and then a Repuke operative feeds the media leaks obstensively coming from the Congressional committees. Any major leaks will be blamed on the Dems and used to justify closing up most (if not all) consultation with Congress.

This may be tinfoil, but this sort of tactic of leaking and blaming your opponent is in Rove's Texas playbook.

Watch out, Dems!

J

6. I'm from Missouri on Tice, show me
and wait impatiently to hear what he has to say. My concern is that he may be a part of the disinformation campaign the USA Today story represents. If Tice talks about the numerous databases that are being generated then he may be credible. If he sticks to the presentation of the relatively, (thought still illegal mind you), smaller infraction of keeping a list of everyone we have called in the last four years, then he will be judged by as another piece of the problem.

How I entered this issue, as per my expertise in the Internet, I determined that a data base, that I know for a fact is being gathered compiling web sites, e-mails, monitoring of blogs and compiling the discussions there to name just a few items they are interested in. I projected if they are doing this to the Internet; it is a reasonable theory that other databases are being gathered in other disciplines. In a search for other experts in their fields and what they were saying, I determined that data bases being developed in tracking cell phone calls, another tracking actual position of individuals in relation to the nearest tower receivers (updated every six seconds with a packet ping as long as the battery is in place in the cell phone), a full fledged monitoring of media including sources, articles and many times surveillance, another data base of political opposition groups including monitoring their activities and functions on issues such as war, environment and others. Another a travel database is collecting all air flights taken by all individuals for at least four years within the country. It monitors all flights and other information concerning international travel on all Americans and foreigners that travel on any American company flights.

These six data bases are well know to individuals and professionals within each of the disciplines those databases touch upon. In addition there are tons of anecdotal information that these data bases exist that appear regularly in press accounts, leaks, Web sites, inadvertent slips by security analysts and law enforcement agents, and many others.

When the USA Today articles broke and the way it was being handle by MSM it was clear to me we were dealing with a disinformation campaign within the first 30 minutes. I therefore reported it here at DU as for what is. An attempt to deflect attention away from the full scale of the operation they were engaged. I continue to stand on the assessment. Until such time I see the US Congress, Tice, MSM or the NSA itself lays the facts out on the table in full view of the general public, I will continue to stand on that assessment that this is nothing less then a third rate futile attempt at disinformation perpetrated upon American society to keep the extent of the NSA activities out of the public eye and not anything less.

While this is my position on the Tice issue of interest in this thread I'm taking the liberty of posting this as a full starting thread in 'General dis politics'

2. It's also a CYA coverup
Now Bush will continue spying
and all sorts of illegal shenanigans
and he'll claim he briefed congress ..
so everything is just darn okeydokey.

(even though it still does not make his
unwarranted searches any less illegal)
