in the upcoming elections. I see its our only chance to get some normality back in our government. No flames please, I just want a responsible government so then we can talk about the things that need to be changed.

2. yes.......but......
Electing a Democrat does not automatically create normality back in our government.

That's our job....

hold the elected Democrat's feet to the fire and hold ALL PUBLIC OFFICE-HOLDERS ACCOUNTABLE, regardless if they are a Repub or Dem...

3. You got it!!!! I want a Democratic government and the only way...........

5. Will talking be enough?
Edited on Wed May-17-06 08:58 AM by redqueen
The passage of NAFTA with nearly no protections at all for labor or the environment has been truly disastrous.

edit to add that I will vote Dem no matter who's on the ticket... but I think it's important that we not just allow the corporatists to shove their anointed candidate down our throats.

9. Damn right
I'll support any democratic candidate. I know I'll never agree with them on everything, with some I'll agree with them very little but if it gets us subpoena power and chairmanship of committees, I'll vote for them.

24. Then we need Dem Leadership to speak out on disenfranchising voters.
The GOP used voter purges, destroyed voter registrations and mis-allocated machines (and sent unreliable ones) to high Dem precincts. We won in 2000 and 2004, but when our leadership failed to protect their base voters from GOP dirty tricks we were left with the Commander in Thief. Here in Ohio, we had HB 3 passed by the GOP dominated legislature. This will force VOTER IDS which will:

1. disenfranchise low income, elderly and college students. and

2. cause bottlenecks (read: long lines) where IDs will be a problem.

Election Reform Activists have been screaming to the Dem Party to get Voter IDs issued before the midterms, but hasn't helped so far. We don't have the resources to do this and it SHOULD be a priority of the Dem Party to protect their base voters. Low Income Inner city neighborhoods with 90%+ Dem votes will be especially hard hit.

IF THE DEMS ARE TO WIN, THEY HAVE TO STICK UP FOR THEIR BASE VOTERS!

25. I agree wholeheartedly but we need the numbers first
and what you're saying is true about the disenfranchisement, but it stills comes down to the numbers.

26. Disenfranchisement is about numbers-large numbers of dem voters. I hope
you'll read Greg Palast's "Armed Madhouse" when it comes out in early June. Chapter 4 will blow your mind.

20. I just want to leave this world a better place to live in than what will
be if we stay on this present course. Once we, Dem's get subpoena power things will change a heck of a lot. I suspect they'll be plenty of Dem's that have to go too but it is important that we take back the house and senate no matter what.

22. I went to a Dem potluck...
a couple of years ago. People were doing a round-robin introduction thing. Several of them said that they had voted Repub a few times in the past.... for especially wonderful Repubs. I think those people failed to understand our system.

If they elect their superrepublican - a wonderful person, I'm sure - it gives the Repub party power, and that means disaster for working people, old people, kids, etc.

When it came my turn to introduce myself, I said I'd never voted for a Repub, and I hoped the Dems who had stayed in the 12-step programs for people with lapses in political common sense.
