Try this tin-foil hat on .......
Iran's 'Oil Bourse' is finally going live this coming week ..... (selling oil in Euros) http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_mike_whi_060508_the_last_gasp_of_the.htm and here http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/opinion/sfl-10forum12may12,0,5301628.story?coll=sfla-news-opinion

The U.S. dollar took a pounding this last friday ..... http://msnbc.msn.com/id/12759654

Another carrier battle group (The Lincoln) is in route to the Persian Gulf to join the carrier Reagan and it's armada. And one more is going on surge status in the Western Pacific (The Enterprise) right around the corner if needed. http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/US_military_seen_ready_for_Iran_0511.html

National Guard on our own borders? To guard against ..... undocumented workers? Umm could be? Timing is everything isn't it. oh I forgot the :tinfoilhat: Just a thought.

note: I haven't been on DU for a month or so, in the process of moving, etc... etc... but good to see 'Fitzmas' is right around the corner! :toast: and nothing would make my coming week more than to see Karl Rove indicted! Hip-hip hooray! Peace. :)

2. I just know that when this administration says they are .....
doing 'such and such' for a reason it's usually some completely other motive which drives them. They have a well documented record of 'lying' which we all know ..... but I doubt an Iranian attack will happen in the next week, it takes a few weeks to get a carrier group to the gulf and set up. Peace.

3. maybe it is about immigration control
but control needed to keep Iranians from coming over the Mexican border... because we've just attacked them.

4. Always got to read between the lines .....
connect the dots, with this Bush crime family. Someone should invent a board game after them where you have to figure out their real agenda. No fair peaking at PNAC when playing though. :)

5. The rawstory article is very interesting and reflects overconfident

...emphasis on aerospace assets to achieve falsely framed political objectives via bombardment. Historically, bombardment is a greatly overated tactic. It's effect typically to cement political cohesion and the animus of your enemies. As usual the actual military, economic and political consequences of such war plans are not even contemplated. The notion of US forces "massing" on the border is laughable. Our forces are pathetically inadequate to take on Iran on the ground. Superficial analyses will laud any temporarily successful American ingress. But invasion even of key installations closest to Iraq are problematic in that they will be unsustainable over the long term and our rear is exposed in Iraq to Shia retalation. As the casualties rise over time to predictable but effective unconventional Iranian responses, euphoria will give way to desperation.

The outcomes, and there will be many, will include astronomical profits for the defense contractors and arms merchants, and unmitigated diaster that will make the Iraqi debacle pale by comparison.

There is a persuasive argument to be made that the US will seek to use so called "tactical nuclear weapons" in aggression against Iran because the current order of battle favors defense contractor profiteering over actual conventional military capability. That course of action will even be more diastrous for Americans because the nuclear war genie will have been released from the bottle.

6. you know what worries me most about this whole mess?
Exactly what you list first as an outcome. And the defense contractors and arms merchants influence our "leaders" to an absolutely unacceptable degree. War is big business, after all.

Between that and the fact that our "government" seems to hold ensuring a profitable oil industry as one of their top goals...

:(

7. I totally agree with your assessment .....
and you probably already know this but I'll post this map anyway. The 'yellow' areas are of importance here because A. 90% of Iran's oil wealth is concentrated in the 'Khuzestan Province' ..... any contemplated land invasion, or thrust forward of U.S. forces would be there. The only other yellow dot on the map is 'Kish Island' where the Bourse is opening. I really don't think the Bush administration is concerned with any other part of Iran. How the hell they think they can overthrow the Iranian Regime is beyond me? But I do believe land wise they will try and 'take over' Khuzestan ..... bomb the shit out of Kish Island, anything else ..... well I don't even want to discuss nuclear weapons, if they use those then yes Bush is the devil re-incarnated. Anyway, any attack on Iran, small or large scale has disaster writen all over it IMHO. sigh ..... Peace.
