Have you been following the debate about why tax cuts lead to more
government spending? Apparently studies have shown that when taxes go down, spending goes up. Several theories on why that happens but I'm not sure why. And the inverse is true, raise taxes and spending decreases.

Is it because the GOP, the great tax cutters, buy into their own BS about how the deficit doesn't matter and cutting taxes will trickle down blah blah.

Or, my own theory, when you ask for sacrifice, Americans rise to the occasion. We are willing to see a cut in some services and pay more taxes if we think it is fair and the GOP cuts taxes for the rich and then don't have the guts to tell the rest of us we have to make up the difference.

Like if the Prez had said on 9/12/2001: "we need to stop our dependence on foreign oil" Americans would have made all kinds of sacrafices...
