Time to enter Richard Cohen in the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest?
Edited on Tue May-09-06 01:02 PM by norml

"It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents--except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness."

--Edward George Bulwer-Lytton, Paul Clifford (1830)

"The e-mails pulse in my queue, emanating raw hatred.....The hatred is back. I know it's only words now appearing on my computer screen, but the words are so angry, so roiled with rage, that they are the functional equivalent of rocks once so furiously hurled during antiwar demonstrations."

--Richard Cohen (2006)

Richard Cohen is a dark and stormy knight of turgid typings, as well as (according to him) having been a class clown of great renown.

He deserves this award.

He would win hands down, on this showing: they might have to retire the prize.

3. Well done! LOL! Anyone who uses "vituperation" when not required to
by an English professor is immediately in the running! Some words you should be required to have a license to use.

And just because the sentence reall irks me, let me add that the "functional equivalent" of rocks hurled at living protestors would NOT be words "pulsig" on a screen, but would be something else capable of drawing blood, blurring vision, ripping flesh, and in other ways doing real damage. Some writers really should step away from their computers from time to time to actually live a little bit of the life they want to write about.
