DeLay set for a 'political fight' to retain his House seat

Filed by RAW STORY

Congressman Tom DeLay will be facing a 'political fight' in order to retain his House seat, according to a story set for Thursday's edition of The New York Times, RAW STORY has learned.

In an article slated for the front page, Rick Lyman reports that some give DeLay a "less than even chance of remaining in Congress" due to his ongoing legal travails involving money laundering and conspiracy charges, as well as connections to the Abramoff lobbying scandal.

Ironically, Lyman notes that "should DeLay lose, it could be linked to the very congressional redistricting scheme that he spearheaded. In an attempt to win more Republican seats in Texas, the districts were redrawn in a way that shifted six Democratic seats to the GOP at the cost of adding more Democratic voters to several Republican districts, including DeLay's."

But Lyman also writes that Republican leaders in Texas' 22nd congressional district "play down the chance" that the former House Majority Leader "could be defeated in a district that remains predominantly Republican."

1. That might be true except for one little detail
When Delay did his illegal gerrymandering of Texas election districts, he gerrymandered a whole lot of Democrats into his own district.

I think he's going to get dirtier and dirtier, and his illegal activities are going to end up costing him his career. If the Democrats he illegally included into his own district are the deciding factor in the next election to oust that despicable worm, it will simply be a case of truly poetic justice.

3. that's true.....
I wonder if DeLay knows about karma, it always comes back to you and payback's a bitch!!

On the other hand, even if by some miracle he is reelected, he may be serving his term in a prison cell anyway!!

I would love to see that!!

4. Dont his poll numbers show him to be dried up?
What arrogance to ignore how his constituents feel about him. True Delay, through and through.

5. Oh, puh-leeze. He actually had to campaign in the last election.
Remember how he scrambled to get people to vote for him, when before he just skated on through?

6. Hopefully he is forced to drop out before the elections.
Then again he may get on the work release program.

7. Don't believe it? One word. Trafficant.
How deluded were HIS supporters? They supported the man even after he was convicted. DeLay will have those kinds of supporters too.
