...against my better judgement at the time, but he has improved since then, and I'd be happy to vote for him again-- EXCEPT if he runs with either Clark or Clinton. Wesley Clark is an absolute deal breaker for me-- I'm so opposed to electing career militarists to head civilian gov't that I would sit out the election at a minimum, vote for a third party candidate most likely, but I'd even consider voting republican FOR THE FIRST AND LIKELY ONLY TIME IN MY LIFE to defeat a retired general. Hillary-- well, I'd just vote Green, no worries, but keeping generals out of the White House is even more important than keeping republicans out, IMO.

...and as I said in my response, just about the only thing I fear more than republicans in power is generals in power. Keep this in perspective-- I was not expressing confidence in republicans, just saying that I'd consider voting for the dark side to keep an even worse prospect out of the White House. I can't over-state my aversion to the idea of putting a general in charge of civilian government. I might feel differently about Clark-- he might prove to be the exception-- if he serves as a senator, or as a governor first. But moving ANY general directly to the head of civilian government-- never.

In the case of Clake, I don't see him as a military threat. He has a reasonable approach to political issues beyond blowing shit up.

...and subsequent events have proven it, so I presume Al would pay more attention to that sort of thing in the future. Putting Lieberman on the ticket as a "moral" sop for the republicans was a huge tactical error, IMO. I can't imagine that Gore would make that error again.

I agree with you that neither Gore nor Kerry would consider running as anyone elses VP. Personally, I believe that Kerry lost the election in 2004-- even if the result was marginal, and electoral fraud remains a possibility, the democratic challenger ran against the worst president in American history for crying out loud, and should have left him in the dust. Kerry failed, purely and simply. Gore on the other hand is not so clear cut-- it was a very different time and a different race. I could see Gore running again, but not Kerry.

If these two guys run in 2008, I figure they're both interested in the top job and unlikely to take a veep nomination, but that's just my guess.

It would be a great post to speculate on who Gore might choose as his vp nominee if he gets the nomination.

Kerry voted for the war. He cannot deny that. No matter what he says, no matter how he was duped, that vote is on record and will ALWAYS undermine his credibility when he crits the Bush** admin. That will always be a big liability for him/us.

that no one is running yet). It was common for posters around here to say that so-and-so would NEVER take a VP slot, but after Kerry was nominated, there were quite a few who hoped that these same people would be chosen for that slot. It's amazing and admirable that people will take on responsibility if called on to do so. John Edwards is a perfect example, and I'd be willing to bet that others who ran in the primary would answer the same kind of call.

So we can never say never, as they say, because we just don't know. We don't even know who will run yet.
