Does the CIA director have to be approved by Congress?
I can't remember - do any of you?

Can Shrub appoint this idiot general who doesn't even know the Fourth Amendment even after serving in the NSA without Congressional oversight or does Congress get to put the dude through some hearings?

1. Yes.
That position requires senate confirmation. At this point, you can bet that whoever is sent up is gonna have a rough time.

3. Thanks.
We thought so but couldn't remember.

If it is, indeed, Michael Hayden, that clip of his not knowing the Fourth Amendment should be played to the American people a zillion times. Of course, sadly, most Americans probably don't know their Constitutional rights, either.

8. True
But nominating someone with close ties to Cheney is sure to raise a lot of issues that I think Bushco would rather forget, not the least of which is the abominable things Goss has just done to the Agency.

15. Could this be bait and switch? Give the CIA Porter Goss, then
at a later date, fire him to give them someone that is not as bad to get their loyalty? Just wondering.

17. Going into the CIA with less of a "gunning for you" attitude. That is
what I mean. He is not any better, but if perception is 9/10ths of reality, and he appears more reasonable, then he might settle the agency down.

I tend to believe any appointee of Bush/Cheney is anti-American.

11. I was thinking about that...
And I'm not sure that would be the smartest thing for him to do, considering that his LAST director was (supposedly) just fired for incompetence and lack of qualifications. I'd think he would want, if not need, congressional approval for whoever is replacing the imbecile.
