Poll question: History will treat Colbert's speech as significant, courageous...
...and very rare in that there simply are no well documented instances of blunt, damning, and brutally honest truth being thrown directly, and publicly, into the face of the leader of a fascist nation. It will stand, and shine, alone, enduring the test of time.

2. sorry
I am a cynic. I sent an email to Comedy Central saying how brilliant and courageous it was, but.... I'm not sure most Americans will understand it or even see it. Why? I still have people tell me that Iraq was behind 9/11.

I would love to be wrong.

7. He (Colbert) clearly set self interest...
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 10:25 PM by Mr_Jefferson_24
...aside when he decided to include the scathing indictment of media, thereby virtually assuring that MSM would ignore/marginalize him. But history does not ignore important events, even if the powers that be at the time choose to, and this is why I think it will one day be duly recognized for the significant address that it was.

12. Doesn't much matter, I think
All of his targets were right there in the room! Time will tell if he shamed the WH press corp into doing their jobs, and if they do, that will have far more impact than Colbert's "jokes."

3. I voted "Yes, it will."
Of course, that assessment is based on the assumption
that B*shCabal is going to have him killed.

When it comes to HISTORY, martyrdom will get you EVERYWHERE.

14. Truth spoken publicly to the power structure...
...of a fascist nation has its risks. In part what made this such a courageous deed.

4. I don't think it matters, it was effectively done at the right time.
Bush and his stepford wife will think twice about going out among the commoners from now on. Let them distance themselves even more--and his poll numbers will continue to plummet. He can't escape reality.

8. "He can't escape reality."
The question is, how much longer will he, with the compliant assistance of MSM, be able to shape it?

Hopefully, not much longer. Our country can't afford it. The world can't afford it.

5. Unfortunately, the news channels are NOT covering Colbert's address
It's a disgrace.

I've checked teh news in several channels (local and cable news channels), and they are all drooling over Bush idiotic performance with his double.

They are not even mentioning Colbert's name. It's disgraceful. The media elite sure are hurting that Colbert made fun of Bubble Boy, but he also becuase he ripped them a new one. Steven Colbert's speech was about lampooning the media's cowardise as much as it was about makin gfun of Bush.

6. I don't know about history but when *I* look back on this
terrible time, I know for certain that I will remember the three "news" events that gave me hope: Keith Olbermann's Katrina rant, Al Gore's recent C-SPAN speech, and this. So it'll go down in my own history as important.

9. It was a roast, so I doubt history will give it much attention.
Prior to Colbert Bush took shots at himself, including his poll numbers. In light of that, Colbert wasn't exactly ground-breaking.

He was good and I laughed out loud many times!

Not ground breaking? He stood before the illegitimate, criminal, leader (who was still in power), of a fascist nation and publicly, via satirical rhetoric, beat the man with the club of truth like an unwanted...well...like an unwanted illegitimate, criminal, leader of a fascist nation. THAT'S ground breaking. Granted, it wasn't quite the headline grabber delivered unto President Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth, but it was powerful, hard hitting, and I think, history making.

Before 'bread and circuses' spoke Steven Colbert, on that occasion, risking his life for truthiness! :D

15. It should but the MSM is not covering it
the only mention I saw was on CNN where they played him talking about Washington being Chocolate with a marshmallow center but they cut the punch line about a crunchy layer of corruption.
