Coulter: "(B)efore we knew Gore was clinically insane," he "seemed kind of
http://mediamatters.org/items/200604270001

In her April 26 nationally syndicated column, right-wing pundit Ann Coulter called former Vice President Al Gore "clinically insane," and wrote that, in 1993, Gore "seemed kind of gay."

From Coulter's April 26 column, in which she attacked Democrats for "trying to raise the price of gasoline" in 1993:

Al Gore defended the gas tax, vowing that it was "absolutely not coming out" of the energy bill regardless of "how much trouble it causes the entire package."

And mind you, this was before we knew Gore was clinically insane. Back then we thought he was just a double-talking stuffed shirt who seemed kind of gay. The important thing was to force Americans to stop their infernal car-driving, no matter how much it cost.

18. Bingo -- you've explained her behavior exactly!
If Al Gore is insane -- then the majority of voters were/are also insane. I'd rather be Gore insane than GOP insane.

She's a fucking lunatic. Why even mention her rants? She belongs well out on the margin.

the one that went around yelling, "Fuck me, Santa, fuck me, Santa, fuck me, Santa"

If I were a man, I'd be sorely tempted to oblige, but the prospect of contracting AIDs from a skank like her would scare me off. Lord knows how many men that barracuda has slept with.

9. Have you seen her on Bill Maher's show?
She was somewhat incoherent. Whenever she said anything everyone was completely confused because it made no sense. No one responded to her because they had absolutely no idea what she said.

It makes no difference whatsoever that she hates democrats or not. She's just a nutcase.

10. I'm sick of her too. So I emailed this to her.
To: tom@anncoulter.org
Subject: hate speech

I am so weary of the current climate of hate and hate speech. I am particularly weary of your brand of hyperbole and ugly lies. Calling Al Gore "clinically insane" is just a classic example of what passes as your "clever" reparté. Try giving your pie-hole a rest. Or, better yet, try putting some pie in it.

And yes, this email is hateful.
I know.

14. Free speech doesn't apply to her rants.
The idea behind the first amendment was to allow people the ability to speak out without fear of reprisal, but that assumes they have a viable viewpoint. Coulter just slanders, and that's illegal-as it should be.

We need to crack down on this crap. Slander isn't protected speech. Terms like 'clinically insane' are damaging to people's reputations and are documentably false. It isn't the same thing as calling someone a name. It's a specific attack on someone's character and abilities.

17. Not if the statement is designed to damage someone's character
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 12:01 PM by EstimatedProphet
Then it's considered slander, and illegal.

I can call you names all I want. I can't however, make up facts that indicate your character is corrupt. For example, I can't say you have a prison record, or that you were caught robbing a bank, or that you are CLINICALLY insane. This hinges on the word clinically in this case, because that implies that Gore has been determined of unsound mind by a professional. Because of that, it goes past name-calling. I think he should slam her ass on this one.

21. not exactly.
I rather doubt that coulter could be convicted of libel or slander based on that sort of statement. If she stated that Al Gore was hospitalized for clinical insanity, knowing full well that he wasn't, you might have a point.

At any rate existing laws are just fine and there is no need to scrap the first amendment because ann is a vile idiot.

24. There's no need to scrap the 1st amendment period
I'm not calling for that. It is a legal matter whether what she said falls under slander-I beleive it does, but I'm not a lawyer and a lawyer may say differently. but if it is slander IT'S NOT PROTECTED SPEECH. It doesn't fall under 1st amendment ruling. So, I'm not talking about getting rid of the 1st amendment, and I haven't been all along. Frankly I can't see how you got that from what I wrote. I have stated all along that slander isn't protected by the 1st amendment (it isn't) and what she is doing is slander-where does removing the 1st amendment come from?

19. Here's mine (couldn't resist):
"So, Gore "seemed kind of gay", eh?

Who was Jimmy/Jeff Gannon/Guckert spending those overnights with? Laura?

As for "clinically insane", try reading "Bush on the Couch", dear. You might learn a bit about narcissism, sociopathy, and projection.

Oh, wait. You are familiar with projection."
