Documents show FEMA's breakdown
Agency expected riots in Mississippi over low supplies

By LARA JAKES JORDAN
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON - FEMA realized its response to Hurricane Katrina was "broken" and braced for rioting over woefully low supplies in Mississippi in the days just after the storm, according to new documents released Monday.

"This is unlike what we have seen before," William Carwile, FEMA's former top responder in Mississippi, said in a Sept. 1 e-mail message to officials at the agency's headquarters. He was describing difficulties in getting body bags and refrigerated trucks to Hancock County.

"I personnally (sic) authorized Hancock County to buy refer (sic) truck that had been carrying ice becasue (sic) the coroner was going to have to start putting bodies out in the parking lot as his cooler was getting so full," wrote Carwile, who has since retired from FEMA. "Still lots and lots of bodies out there."

The next day, in another e-mail message to headquarters about insufficient levels of food, water and ice being distributed in Mississippi, Carwile reported: "System appears broken."

Documents prove that even in the state controlled by the repug governorn, Barbour, FEMA failed and the system was broken.

Why is it the democratic party won't seize on these failings and use this as a rallying cry?

Why is this being ignored?

2. I'm calling Pelosi's office again tomorrow.
She was on fire today, supporting Murtha and sticking to her guns.

Maybe we can fan that fire a little and get it to spread.

You'd think EVEN A POLITICIAN would see the need and the wisdom to take on the miserable failure that is the Thug's Katrina response.

I think we have to start repeating: "Baghdad, what about BILOXI?" over and over and over. On the phone, in emails, in snail mail. If we don't, they will not move.
