Can I get a hand putting together a list of orgs for donations?
1.

I need a list of cities represented here at DU. Then, I can go to that city's site and get info for the school district, the fire department, the health dept.

2.

Churches

If there is a church in your area doing good work, I need a name and a city.

3.

National Orgs.

Who is doing the work?

Thank you, my friends.

2. For the animals...
2 groups doing amazing work on the ground who are in it for the long-haul...

New Orleans Animal Rescue (ARNO)
http://www.animalrescueneworleans.com/

Best Friends Animal Society
https://www.bestfriends.org/donate/hrf.cfm

There is serious discussion going on re: the big animal groups and how they are handling the money and the efforts to reunite animals with their people. ARNO and Best Friends have really stepped up to do the work and made commitments early on.

4. Where I was last week:
http://www.campcoastcare.com

It's a joint venture of the Lutherans and Episcopalians and staffed by volunteers, who sleep on cots in a gym up to 150 at a time, have four toilets and four showers for each gender, and get three basic meals a day. There are no religious requirements for receiving assistance and no proselytizing. The philosophy is "Serve, don't judge."

They provide free food, clothing, and medical care.
