For those of you thinking about econo-heat, I bumped into this
ad yesterday. Rather than add it to the long posting about it's virtues, I thought you might like to see the sale going on now.

I wish I had the understanding to tell if this would save me money over the the Hydro-sil heater I use now as a primary source of heat in a small room attached to the rear of my house. This unit sends my electric bill through the roof each heating season. The rest of my house is oil heat.

Never too soon to start thinking about heating season.

1. I'm wrestling with the same questions
I'm sure there's a calculator out there to use for comparison. I'll dig around.

2. Amazon reviews

Might be worth a look:

I was considering these, as a supplement to my heat pump to keep the place warm at night.

I am also looking for an alternative heat source to use when the power goes out, edit: a power source that isn't petroleum-based.

3. Thanks!!
I currently use a sealed, oil-filled radiator style heater in my room. It has 3 settings from 500w - 1500w. I keep it set on 500w with the door closed and the thermostat set on 68 (on the heater). That and a heated mattress pad and it's livable and doesn't make my electric bill unbearable. The trick is to keep it set on the lowest setting.

I'd be curious to see what others come up with for an alternative heat source.
