There are now 55 people on my ignore list
Every single one of them on there for making either repeated misogynistic or racist remarks. I usually clear my ignore list every six months, but it seems to just keep growing. And the same people also seem to be placed on it every time.

I'm so glad we have this forum, where I know I won't have to put anyone on my ignore list!

1. I used to have 0
I've been here a few years, longer than the 2005 my user profile says. I forgot my old login, which I'd had for years, but only had about 50 posts.

My point? I used to have 0 people on ignore. For years, I had 0. In the past few months, my ignore list has grown to about 30 people.

I just can't take banging my head against a brick wall any more. Some people won't ever get it because they don't want to get it.

2. Unfortunately, I have 3.
They are there, not because they are bigots, but because they are annoying people who post contrary stuff just to provoke arguments and cause trouble.

I want to see the bigots, because I want to oppose them and let them know that they're obvious bigots, but I have no time for people who are just arguing for the sake of causing trouble.

3. I'm using it more of late.
There was a time I was reluctant to use the feature, in hopes I could contribute to having disruptors removed from the community. Unfortunately, some outlasted my patience and tolerance for their crap. Why abuse myself by reading their insane spewings?

People that go out of their way to ATTACK my comments on threads and seem more intent on "arguing" than anything else, go on my list. Surprisingly, my list is pretty short.

But there are also those I put on ignore, primarily so they would lose the ability to pm me. It surprises me that some use pm's as a way to extend nastiness from a thread. A guy was actually tombstoned for doing that. ;)

I'm also surprised by those that use pm's as some sort of passive aggressive, insincere means of communication. :eyes: Just another form of game playing as far as I'm concerned. Those that have contacted me in such a way tend to go on the ignore list, too. ((sigh))

5. I'm not a language cop, I can take it
and people say tactless things, especially when they are either tired or hot under the collar. I know I do.

I put people on ignore for being abusive to me more than once. Once can be a mistake. Twice is the beginning of a bad habit. Three times and there is no hope for improvement.

I currently have six. There were a few others, but they are no longer with us, may they rest in peace.

6. if I put people on ignore

I'd miss out on all the charming apologies I get. ;)

Well, I could have done without the completely disingenuous one by one of the 12-steppers working me as one of his/her steps ...

7. I just counted mine.....18
I have learned to love the Ignore Button. In fact, I wish I could use it IRL. 'I can't hear you...you're on my Ignore List.' lol.

10. LOL!
Wouldn't that be great, irl? The closest thing we have is telephone caller id. My all time favorite calling feature was call-block, the closest thing to Du's "ignore feature." Absolutely LOVED it!

8. Mine's up to 255.
But it should be 257. I have yet to block the misogynist trolls who came after me in GD/GD: P/Lounge last week.

11. Well, others might consider my criteria for putting someone on Ignore
to be too stringent, but a hugh Ignore list really is better for my blood pressure. And even with a massive list like this, I still run into a lot of psychos here.

12. I don't...
...consider your criteria, too stringent (whatever your criteria may be). ;)

I think you have a very healthy sense of what you can and can't tolerate reading. Why stress yourself out reading bs and crap?
Good for you, knowing your limits and creating boundaries that work for you.

Personally, there's at least five people I can think of offhand, that I wish I had placed on ignore immediately. Everytime I see something they post, I feel my stress level rise a bit. :eyes: What's worse is, I'm ALWAYS tempted to respond to them and it's never a productive use of my time or energy. It's really not worth it.

13. Mine comes and goes
I tend to put people on ignore for sounding like ignorant 12-year-old boys (whether chronologically or just emotionally), sitting in Mom's basement, overusing l33tspeak, and generally sounding as if the female gender is completely, utterly foreign and incomprehensible to them. The vast majority end up on my ignore list for using too broad a brush to paint an entire gender with ("all women do this" "women never think that" or similar idiocies).

Oh, and homophobes. They get axed pretty damn quick too. But the moderators are better at policing homophobia than misogyny; sad state of affairs, but it's true - and I've been here since February of 2001, so it's not like that's a new idea to me.

14. I have two
Both are on there for repeatedly making unsavory comments about those who live in poverty. It drove me insane reading their comments and having them respond to me.

How even alleged "progressives" have their blind spots and areas of intolerance.

16. The most current one was added a couple of days' ago.
There was a thread in GD about a fire department watching a trailer burn to the ground. The talk led to fire protection district fees. I used to dispatch for police and fire and I stated some of the fees I'd heard and a story I'd heard years ago in dispatch training about a protection district letting a house burn because the people couldn't afford to pay the fees. (They were nearly 2 grand.)

He said that it was their fault that they couldn't afford the fees and that they deserved what they got.

Don't you just love that.:sarcasm:

17. Eeeuuwww...
:puke: I can see what you mean.

The only one deserving what they got, was that guy. He totally deserved to be put on ignore. Had I saw those comments, I probably would have done the same. :scared:

Reminds me of some of the stellar comments I saw here during Katrina.
You know, "those people" KNEW the storm was coming--how could they be so lazy, stupid, poor...they deserved to drown. :eyes:

18. I remember those comments.
I worked overnights when Katrina hit. I was one of the people up all night long, watching the news and keeping up online w/ everything and then posting as soon I heard something new.

I placed a few on ignore during that time but they've been tombstoned since.

19. Think I need to add another...
...because if I see this hypocrite post one more,"...look how fantastic I am--I denounce bigotry, and won't allow such people in my presence" I'm going to lose my mind.

I say this person is a hypocrite because I've seen them in threads where some were dealing with issues of a different kind of bigotry, and this SAME person (more than once) commented in a VERY unsupportive way about it. I'm all for denouncing bigotry, but it sickens me to see people go on about how they are about equality, when that is obviously NOT the case. They are for equality, regarding those they see as friends ON THIS BOARD. They'll jump in to support them and defend their issues but everything else...meh...not so much. :eyes:

Yes, they definitely are going on my ignore list. Because this should NOT be bothering me this much. (sigh) Ok. Thanks for allowing me to vent. Going to put them on ignore. Right. Now.

21. One of my biggest peeves
(and it always puts me up on a soapbox) is people who are selective in fighting prejudice. How hard is it to figure out that it's a large unified fight everyone's equality and right to be who they are?
:grr:

20. Okay, please help
an ignorant (and lazy) poster.

I have zero on ignore, partly because most of the time I'm not all that bothered by idiots. But I'm not really sure how ignore works so I've been reluctant to use it.

Does using the ignore feature block entire threads from my view, or just comments made in threads by the member I have put on ignore? I guess I'm afraid I would miss out on some good discussions if I used the feature.

22. Ignore works like this
It block comments made in threads by the person you're ignoring.
It blocks entire threads started by the person you're ignoring.
It blocks private messages from the person you're ignoring.
