MEXICO CITY, Feb 24 (IPS) - When Mexican freelance journalist and human rights activist Lydia Cacho published a book last year exposing a paedophile ring, she was warned by friends and colleagues that she would run into trouble.

It did not take long for their warnings to come true. She was arrested by the police, driven 900 kms to the state of Puebla, held for 30 hours, mistreated and threatened. Now that she is the target of the wrath of powerful Mexican businessmen and politicians, she is worried that the worst is yet to come.

"Now I am news, and that protects me somewhat. But when I am no longer news, I'm afraid of reprisals by these criminals, who stop at nothing," Cacho told IPS.

Her book, "Los demonios del Edén" (The Demons of Eden), contains the personal accounts of minors who talk about the sexual abuse they suffered at the hands of a child prostitution and pornography ring in which prominent figures were allegedly involved.

Sorry, but I've been so pissed off since the news from South Dakota...
Then we have THIS topic, child prostitution and child porn which is much more widespread than most people will accept or understand.

I was talking to a PA at work, who spent two years in the army, then joined the national guard. He was telling me he got shot at more from the methampetamine manufaturers and he ever did the the first Iraq action.

Then he started telling me about a friend of his, a fellow guardsman, who was assigned to a busted child porn ring his words, went something like this.
"This guy, was you know, a big, macho burley guy, very, manly, very tough, nothing much bothered him, but what he was exposed to in that assignement broke him, and it broke him completely. He has PTSD from it"

I told him that I was a bit familier with the topic, and I know a few people who had been involved as children. I told him it's hard to even discuss, because it gets so graphic. He just nodded him head. He knew some details from his buddy.
(One of the people whose story I know is an adult now, and was forced to perform sex acts with her mother, she went through hell trying to recover from that shit, and I'm not sure you ever really do recover)
Thanks for posting this. I wonder if her book has been published in English? I'll buy it in Spanish if I have to.

obviously, a lot of men want access to young children ---

And, with the rise of the right, we see this crippling influence on so many societies --
and I don't think it's a small issue here in the states ---
