I worked for a while at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle--they're world class when it comes to not only cancer treatment, but research as well. The study I was working on was to try to create a blood test that could detect breast & ovarian cancer through blood test, like they can with prostate cancer.
Last year, my mom thought she had ovarian cancer. Here are some questions you need to ask your doctor if they ask you to have surgery:
1) When the surgery is done, will staging be done while you are in the OR?
2) Will there be an oncologist surgeon on hand when staging is done to make sure that they not only get the cancer, but a margin of 'safe' tissue that surrounds it?
God..that's all I can think of. I gave my mom a list of about 25 questions to ask her Doctor.
I'm really, really really really sorry you're having to go through this. Please know that you're in my thoughts and prayers--both you and your family. Please keep us updated on your progress.
Oh--and I second what the other posters in your lounge thread said--get as many second opinions as you can. And don't just have your new doctor look at the biopsy/mammogram reports--have them DO a new biopsy/mammogram themselves. I know it's uncomfortable for you, but slides and such get mislabled and misread all the time.
You're in my thoughts, hon. Honestly.
:hugs:
