Weight beauty and lies
I looked at the should obesity be a feminist issue thread.

A few things bothered me about it.

One is this idea that overweight is tolerable but obesity is EVIL.

That is like it or not still a lie tied into the idea as a obese female you are taking up too much space that men want attitude ingrained into our culture. HOW dAre you, woman,be bigger and more threatening than a male who is entitled to have superior status, girth and pleasure..In the 50's I still remember seeing ads and TV shows where the man ate steak the kids ate smaller portions of steak and the woman sometimes girls ate salad and bread .

Dieting makes you obese I know this by EXPERIENCE.Before I tried a diet I never got over 180.. Before I went on weight watchers I never topped 200 pounds. Each time the weight increased Now I am 265. 100 pounds overweight. I am tall big framed and muscular and I carry it well, everyone thinks I am not as heavy as I am.

I am healthy no diabetes,no cholesterol issues,I eat pretty healthy. Mostly vegetables, fruit and meat, very little breads/sweets.
I hate exercise because of my trans issues. The swaying udders drive me crazy. So I do not exercise as much as I should.

People in this country are trained to be bigots at an early age.
women that look to mannish, feminine looking men,fat people, freckles, buck teeth, stutterers, the list goes on..

Because we are trained to desire a certain type of person,a person that is'flawless' as the ideal. The ideal changes with the culture and times ,but there is always this want to be her there pushing us to become who we are not as if being this ideal is better than being who we are.The more unattainable this ideal is,when you fit it you get big social rewards..This ideal look that we are taught we must emulate is a goad of shame..We must be "it" if we are to'catch a good man'to take care of us and our potential kids.Likewise men are taught to desire a certain look in a mate because it means they got a good "catch" that will make them be admired by men , and a pretty chassis tells the male if she has the personality of a harpy at least he didn't get a lemon to look at..

Our cultural view of beauty if you strip away the ads and crap is no more sophisticated than a peacock shimmying feathers,or a wolf sending out pheromones,we dress it up and say a load of crap, tie it to"health" but it is still this instinctual stupidity and pecking order bullshit driving it all and making people think obesity is a "moral failure" when obviously we have no CLUE what is causing obesity..we haven't got the animal bigotry and bell curve mentality out of our genes yet.

But this is no excuse to stigmatize and create a culture that tolerates size bigotry as if it was social darwinism in action. We do not know what our role as a species on this planet is for, our ignorance about ourselves will ful or not is vast still. So yammering about obesity when in reality our way of life, the chemicals, the pollution, the destruction of topsoil it effects us,and our bodies in ways nobody foresees because alot of the chemicals we use are not even tested for affects when they interact with the 70,000 other chemicals and drugs that will be poured into our living space....before they are sold by the mega gallon.. Our civilization is TOXIC,stressful, sick and it shows on US..As we live in such an uncontrolled short sighted, destructive way,we are also killing the planet and humankind is kinda well,stupid..and selective about what things it calls a problem.

Fat thighs is the least of our issues when fetal cord blood of unborn infants contains some 260 chemicals in it and they are not even BORN..Don't tell me that pollution isn't having an effect on us and that the obesity epidemic is all a personal problem of immoral gluttonous individuals who cannot resist ads and calm their apatites,,that response is so Medieval churchy..frankly.There are millions of factors this moral bigotry leftover from the likes of cotton Mather's does not even consider.

To solve the obesity problem we need to look at what it is about our world that has dramatically changed in the past 100 years that affects us bodily.

Food additives, pollution, stress, chemicals, industrialization, and yes lifestyles have been changed.

It is suspicious to me because we have a set number of fat cells.
We get heavy when these cells swell up like balloons.
ever get a blister or rash? Your skin swells up it gets inflamed because a chemical is irritating it..You neutralize the chemical offender and the inflammation stops.Ever notice how many allergies and chemical sensitivities there are..Wasen't always that way.. Ever stop to realize every year thousands of new never before manufactured chemicals ,drugs and additives along with the previous ones of years before are sold and put into our air, homes food and water like it's nothing? We exist in a chemical bath and some of those chemicals are irritants they make us sick and mutate our DNA.

Obesity could be a deep tissue response of inflammation of the fat cells in response to a persons bodily toxin load. Some people are in places exposed to higher toxins than others, some people might be sensitive to some but not others,Who knows..

But this explains maybe why diets don't work or temporarily do.

When you exercise you sweat.Sweat contains toxins, sweat removes some toxins from you, like peeing and taking a dump...ever cry and your tears burn like acid? It's because certain chemicals are in them, that are not present in the unemotional crying like when your eyes water from wind. Ever sweat and notice your skin get red and irritated? Imagine whatever it is that is pissing off your skin was inside you..pissing off your insides..Maybe this is why exercise helps with weight loss,it doesn't burn fat away, because you will always have a set number of fat cells, it helps inflammation,it gets some TOXINS out of you..I could be talking out of my ass here. But I wonder.

Also isn't it convenient for people conditioned to obey authority and accept their"lot in life" to prefer to ignore the damage our industrial chemical industry does to us rather than make "the morally bankrupt powers that be uncomfortable" with what they do, instead we, can attack something right near by..We can hurt and stigmatize each other for being sensitive, hurting,or unable to cope and not pursuing the"ideal" hard enough or suffering enough for"beauty" and hate ourselves for being too sensitive or sick.

Women have learned very well how to hate themselves for being sensitive to toxins,be it toxic people or toxic environments.
This misplaced stoic bullshit has got to stop.

Maybe we should really listen to what our sensitivities are telling us about our lives our bodies, our future as a species..instead of playing games to be admired and making believe obesity is a moral failure of an individual's hell bound gluttony. The medieval mindset has to go,we can do better and get more honest about all this mess we are co-creating and letting happen don'tcha think?

For a species that can consciously create a beauty /weight standard like ours does,we can also choose to throw them all away.
We can ask questions until we find answers no matter who gets offended or what"elite" gets their toes stepped on,or who's pet theory is sredded..We got to go beyond what well paid scientists and industry experts say and look at what they AREN'T saying as well.

Meanwhile..I think we can grow past our own bullshit games, and let people love who they want to love and be what they are whatever it is and it becomes is up to them,we can live without shaming people and creating hierarchies of worthiness like a medieval cleric when people are not part of the competition to be the 'ideal' or are'obese'.
We got bigger fish to fry and if we do not turn up the heat and ask more questions and explore past the same old hypothesis as before we are doomed. We need to seriously look for answers and let go of ideas that do not work and also fuel a big distracting industry making sure certain kinds of questions are not asked so inconveinent implications to profitable industries are not raised..

Addiction, obesity, starvation (anorexia nervosa) are political problems, not psychiatric: each condenses and expresses a contest between the individual and some other person or persons in his environment over the control of the individual's body.
