3. You're welcome and that's amazing.

You've added their logo to your post. I wish I was that computer savvy.

4. Here's how to get the images/photos.
You put the mouse over the image and right click. Click on Properities. A small box will appear. On the URL, copy it. Return to DU and paste this into your post!

Try it below and see how it goes. Don't get frustrated. Post with any questions you might have!

5. Okay, got the box, clicked properties...
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 12:22 AM by Senior citizen
this is what I got for the URL

but the box doesn't have a copy button and obviously just typing it into my post doesn't work. What am I missing?

Actually it is probably there--I see a little box with a red X in it, but when I right click it and click "show picture" nothing happens.

6. Ooopssss.. I'm sorry.
After you find the URL, highlight it with the mouse, right click and select copy. In your post, hit paste and then the picture should appear.

Sometimes, I pick a pic on the web tha just will not appear on my post. If this happens, try another pic and see.

Post any ?s you have!

14. Very cool. You are welcomed. Now, a question for you...
How did you get it as your avatar? What exactly does the avatar line say on your peronal page when you typed it in? This is where I always screw up!

Thanks!

15. It took me so many tries that I'm actually not sure....
Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 12:37 PM by Senior citizen
First I had to copy it into a file on my desktop. That only took me about 10 tries, but I finally got it. It has to be saved as a picture file, and then moved to the desktop, I think.

Then I went to "options," then "profile," and then "avatar." A little box comes up for avatar that lets you click to upload a file, so you click do that and it lets you "browse" so that you can select the new file on your desktop to upload. After it uploads, it will show the new file name in a line on top. Then, in the avatar line, you type in the "personal/(yourmembernumber).(gif/jpg) the way it tells you to--magically DU has fixed it so that the number shown in the pop-up box really is your individual member number, click save, and it should tell you that you have your new avatar. Then you try posting (there is a test thread in the "archived & surplus forums" where you can do it repeatedly) and see if it works. Mine finally did, after I'd tried it about 7 or 8 times. In my case what I typed in the avatar line (I don't remember my number so I'll put zeros) was: personal/000000.gif

And how do you like my new avatar?

Hmmm... it says I have the Equality Now logo as my new avatar, but maybe it won't show up until I exit and reenter DU. Oh well. Have to try again.....

On edit: Okay, there it is. It is too large, so the print doesn't show clearly, but I like it. Thanks, KT!

13. I think you'll enjoy Equality Now.

You get to write letters like:

His Royal Excellency High Poobah
The White Palace of Government
Whereever in the World

Dear Poobah:

I am concerned about the case of Little Orphan Annette who has been kept as a slave in your kitchen for the past 15 years. You were the wise and inspired leader who introduced your country's laws against slavery, so I know that now that this has been brought to your attention you will see to LOA's immediate release. Thank you.

With all respect and kowtows,

Me.

Incredibly enough, it usually only takes a few truckloads of such letters for LOA to be released. Equality Now has taken on genital mutilation, sex tours, "marriage" kidnapping, rape laws, and many other issues. They rock!

8. NOW, NARAL, Feminist Majority
And probably a few others I've forgotten right now. Mostly it's financial support but NARAL has gotten pretty active here in AZ lately, which is great.

EMILY's List counts too, right?

12. I forgot the American Association of University Women

probably because I couldn't afford to renew my membership. It is open to "anyone with a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally acredited institution." Fully feminist org with a focus on academia but also supports and has "influenced legislative debate" on other feminist issues like "sex discrimination, sexual harassment, civil rights, reproductive choice, affirmative action, Title IX, welfare reform, vocational education, pay equity, family and medical leave, and health care reform."
