Riverdaughter nails it
I have the unfortunate honor of seconding her observation.

From personal experience, I can say that without exception, I have never met a man who did not behave as if his reason for being was more important than mine. No matter how supportive they were, when push came to shove, it was always my life that more easily sacrificed and compromised. My wishes and aspirations were a little less lofty. My gifts and talents a little less meaningful and worthy of praise. Nothing short of my winning a Nobel Prize, a Pulitzer and a humanitarian award would be acknowledged as sufficient for a life changing decision to go in my favor. Maybe even that wouldn’t be enough. When push comes to shove, where a man lives, what he does with his time, what career he pursues and what dreams he has will always come first. The only power women have in most relationships, ultimately, is the power to walk away from them. That is, if she wants to be judged a person in her own right.

1. You know
I've been hearing (outside, in the real world) some of the most Gawdawful shit and outright lies about Senator Clinton. From people who should know better too. It seems to come from talk radio, which I don't listen to. I'm not gettin' it. I'm a half-assed socialist, so our whole political system pisses me off, and I never get exactly excited about candidates. I swore I'd vote Democrat until I felt safe from neocons though. Which might be never.

But having the first woman, or first black man is phenomenal to me. I'd be REALLY impressed with the first Black Woman president, as long as it wasn't a tool like Ms. Rice.

Woman not only "work twice as hard" for any recognition, they're supposed to be ever-so grateful when "allowed" in the good ol' boys club.

I'm happily married, but often when I talk to women in their '30's I hear a lot of complaints about men, not the relationships they are IN, but the lack of availability of what they really want in a man. Seems only by lowering their personal bar---something I'd be dead set against, I'd stay alone with toys first-- would they find something decent. I hear about seemingly inherent male selfishness, as well as those who tend to be deliberately obtuse(stupid on purpose)Among other things.

These women are educated, attractive, successful and interesting--whatever. It's not wanting "bad boys", they don't LIKE that shit. It's not the men that are "too nice" --Not a problem with these women, they're emotionally mature. (Both those common complaints from men are--------- I'll just say tired)
They just want grown-ups without a bunch of fucked up baggage. Guess it's rough out there when you can stand on your own two feet and don't take any shit.

2. the tired meme "American women want too much"
means "They want me to grow up and see them as equals but I don't wanna 'cuz I might hafta get off my lazy ass."

Lately I wonder if there aren't multiple mentalities at play. The logical brain says, "Men and women are equal," and the dog brain says "I'm in charge, bitch," and the two brains are not talking to each other. I see this dissonance with SCLM (so-called liberal men) all the time. At least the right-wingers are proud of their pea brains and don't give you mealy-mouthed bullshit.

3. SCLM
Priceless. I'm stealing it, if you don't mind. I might get a tee-shirt made.

I can't stand that kind of hypocrisy either. For instance, I know a lot of bikers. In fact, I was raised around a lot of pretty hardcore bikers. One thing I will say about them besides you won't catch me dead in a "relationship", with one--or maybe that's the only way you'll catch me, is they don't really bullshit about what or who they are. It's refreshing in a sad way, and I wonder if that is what attracts otherwise strong and sane women to them, to the point of wearing a "property of so and so" vest. Or thinking "Miss Buffalo Chip" is a GREAT, life affirming contest

Call me old fashioned--please, but buffalo chip to me means cow shit.

(I like bikers fine BTW, I get along pretty good with the few left in my life. The ones I know take me as I am as well, I stay away from the real crazies)
