I haven't been here in a long time
I've kind of quit DU. I used to spend half the day on this website - refreshing whenever I had a spare minute. I loved the way I found out just about anything that was going on in the world and I loved the feeling of support among democrats in a hostile world.

The atmosphere was never all *that* great for women, but it sure as hell wasn't what it is now. All the little boys are showing their true colors.

I was on DU for the 2004 election, but under a different username and had maybe four posts total. I probably should have taken the offer of username changes right after 2004, but I didn't have a paid account.

My point is that I've finally broken my addiction to DU and most likely won't be back. I am so FUCKING ANGRY at the behavior of the people on this board toward Senator Clinton.

And also the blatant misogyny flying around this place. But to even point it out means you are a hysterical woman, imagining things.

Well, fuck you, DU. A post calling Clinton a bitch was just the last straw for me. I responded in kind and now I'm done. I don't even think I'll be back after the election.

And the worst part? An election that should have been a walk in the park is going to be close, way too close for comfort.

I hope all the little boy women haters are happy when that lying, prevaricating, hateful man (McCain) is president.

1. The little boy woman haters will be fine with McLame
Oh, they'll piss and moan about him, but he won't turn their entire world view upside down like a President Hillary would.

I'm just as angry as you are. I too voted Clinton and hope that this sparks a fourth wave-no, tsunami-of feminism in this country.

2. You are a very good person, gaspee.

I hope you are happy with whatever you do, wherever you are.

You're absolutely right about the level of sexism. And the level of homophobia and racism is up there too. I've stopped posting in the big forums, except the lounge, because of it. Mostly, I'm in the lounge, here, and in a couple of the other small forums.

There are a hell of a lot of people here that aren't worth taking to or arguing with about equality. They just won't get it. They'll pay lip service at best, and then do everything they can to undermine equality while insisting that they're not bigots.

3. I've always appreciated your efforts, ThomCat...
...but glad that you are reserving your energy for yourself. You're right, most won't "see." They come here to spew the bile they can't possibly say in the real world, for fear of people seeing them for what they really are.

They aren't worthy of your time or energy. But many have appreciated much of what you've tried to do.

5. What bothers me most
Is not only the sexism, but the denial threads about sexism and racism. Either people are clueless, or stupid, and I don't believe that's the case.

Thomcat, even in the lounge the other day someone posted "I'd throw Gays under the bus if it would end the war" in some thread.

I'm not getting it. I'm really, really not getting it.

6. I know what you mean.
I did not know there were so many defensive people out there. I mean, Jesus Christ! It's not just here, either - there's been some major blogosphere drama as well.

I think people have just lost their collective minds.

7. It seems they are becoming more clueless...
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 05:45 PM by bliss_eternal
...if that's possible.

From the beginning I've seen people seeming to bend over backwards patting themselves on the back for supporting "the black guy.":eyes: They're SO proud of themselves.

At the same time, they've projected (their) bigotry onto those that weren't as "enthusiastic" about their candidate. I see the same people time and again, creating some of the most offensive, bigoted threads I've ever seen--all in the name of supporting "the black guy." :puke:

Dare to call them on it, and they merely bury their heads deeper in the sands of racism apology.

They really don't get it.
Voting for the "black guy" because of his ethnicity, doesn't make someone a beacon of social equality.

4. Good for you, gaspee...
I haven't been around as much as I once was, either. But when I am here, I've noticed many of my favorite posters are noticeably absent. I don't have to guess why. :eyes:

I'm glad for you--but miss reading your posts when I'm around.

8. I'll miss you, gaspee.
DU really has little to offer a feminist woman...it's just like our self-destructing civilization. Our culture doesn't allow for healthy relationships, does it? It's all about power, hierarchies, and bullying.

Check in here now and then, OK?

I still fear we won't see an election....they'll find a way to institute martial law. Then where do we go? I wish there were a feminist community to flee to...guess that would have to be truly 'underground.' Maybe we should start FU...'feminist underground.' lol!

Take care.

9. I'm not happy about the sexism and Clinton.
As I've repeated ad nauseum in the big forums, I don't even want to see her win -- I just want the sexist bullshit recognized here and in the media.

I hope that after a break you can come back and participate here, gaspee.
