Surviving the holidays.....
The best thing I heard from a friend who is attending OA is the phrase, "Remember, Christmas is only one DAY, not one MONTH." That has really helped me change my thinking. So, although I have been attending holiday parties and so on, I've been indulging only a little bit in what I find appealing. I don't want to feel deprived, because I'm afraid it'll make me feel like binging -- but I don't want to ruin all of the progress I've been making. I figure that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be my big blow-out days. :)

How about you, have you picked up any good tips that you are relying on to carry you through the feasting season? :)

minutes on the treadmill. One big tip if you are going out or to a friends for a big holiday meal---wear pants that fit, no elastic waste pants and that way you can't eat too much, i did that on thanksgiving and it worked well.

4. Good tip. Or eat before you go.
Actually, I plan to do that shortly so I will have the willpower to not pig out at the neighbor's holiday party.

2. I too drink a LOT of water but my biggest
problem is all the treat trays at work. I KNOW I should NOT have anything at all from them yet I do! The problem for me is a health issue, in that if I fill up on 'bad' stuff I have no room for the protein that I need just to LIVE. For me it's a behavioural thing. I have to work on modifying my thoughts regarding food and the 'comfort' food brings. It's been a lot of work since I had surgery in March but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Weight loss surgery never promised to be a miracle cure for me but it sure has been an excellent tool !
I'm down 134lbs and feeling great, now if I could just keep my hands OFF the cookies and candy! And I don't even have a sweet tooth geez.

5. I sit right opposite the filing cabinets where they come
and dump off the leftovers and the treats.

I've been known to get up and move them out of my line of sight. :)

3. i've actually been pretty good this year
not perfect, but ok. we had the office party early & even though we had cakes & pies at the party, none of them were the kind i liked, so i passed. i didn't want to waste calories on something i didn't like. when i brought home-made fudge to the office, otoh, it was a different story. :evilfrown:

everything in moderation. don't deny yourself something you really like, but don't go overboard with it either. :)

6. Exactly. It helps to have that mentality.
I only have so many calories in a day so I'm gonna spend them on the stuff I really really like! Makes it easier to pass on the "free food."
