I crave sweet things in the morning
most times I can be satisfied w/ just a little granola in my yogurt, or w/ a piece of fruit, but right now I am craving something sticky and sweet, w/ chocolate, if possible.

I'm not even hungry, really. I just finished a scrambled egg w/ a piece of sausage.

So why am I craving?????

1. It's probably a carb thing
I eat a lot of protein at times and I usually crave something sweet to eat then. Especially right after I eat.

2. I take the Viactiv vitamins.
Two calcium and one multi-vitamin. I get the milk chocolate flavor. Yes, there are calories but not too many and I amazingly never forget to take my vitamins! :)

I also LOVE Luna Bars -- nutrition bars designed especially for women. There are many flavors and they are about 170 to 180 calories each. Again, they're full of vitamins and minerals so I don't feel bad about having one.

3. I have an Atkins Chocolate Shake whenever I am craving something sweet...
it only has 1 carb, if you are counting such things.

4. I don't typically count carbs, per se
but because of my surgery it's important to get my protein in, and given the reduced size of my stomach, I have to be careful not to waste space on stuff that isn't loaded w/ protein or nutrients.

I don't eat a lot of bread, but when I do eat bread, it's whole grain. I have pasta and rice, but in very small doses.

I will admit to enjoying my sweets. I've been cutting down considerably lately... and the results have been good.

5. i think you have to have a little something you know? I'm on South Beach
and even in the most rigid 1st part when he said "No sweets" i still had my stash of Mike and Ikes and also fat free pudding with cool whip lite---god i love that stuff!! Anyhow, i don't think it's hurt me much if at all because i'm down about 30 lbs. in a little over 2 months. So enjoy the occasional sweet i say.

9. Try sprouted grain bread, with low-sugar preserves.
You got a Trader Joe's in your area? If not, any health food store will do. Buy a loaf of sprouted multi-grain bread (Ezekiel 4:9 is excellent, if you can find that particular type, but there are many others) and put a little low-sugar preserves on it. It is an excellent snack and is higher in protein than you would think. It's also not too high in calories. Try it and let me know what you think. :D
