menopause and weight loss
is anyone menopausal? i am 51, have not had a period in almost two years. my body is changing in weird ways, and weight just does not drop off like the old days.

my food needs are different, too. atkins or low-carb works for me. i've noticed this since i was young - back off the ice cream, chips and bread, and weight just disappears. but now i seem to need less protein and more carbs. example - i had a ham and chees omelet for breakfast the other morning, then went to work. about two hours later, i felt faint, not hungry, just like something was missing. so i ate a small piece of crust off the sandwich i'd brought for lunch, and miraculously, i felt better.

i'm also not as hungry as before. yesterday, i hardly ate anything, but was never hungry. i forced myself to have a salad for dinner, but had toast, nuts and fruit during the entire day. it was weird.

mainly, i'm trying to eat a little bit of everything, as suggested by susun weed in her menopause book, but i sure would like to lose about 15 or more pounds. i walk every morning, 30-45 minutes depending on my schedule.

3. I'm on SB as well and you only have to avoid fruit for the 1st 2 weeks
so maybe after thes summer you could start it.

4. is there a section in the book about menopause?
atkins never addressed it, but i'm wondering if our needs are different.

also, are there supplements to take to cover the nutrients you don't get?

6. I am one year post menopause and just started the grazing diet
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 09:35 PM by tinfoilinfor2005
where you eat six or seven meals a day at about two hundred cals each, give or take. When I say "meals" that can be anything you like. Usually a couple of my meals are a piece of fruit and a piece of cheese, or a dash of nuts.

I've been on this for over a week and I lost three pounds, but it was so easy. No hunger at all, because the point of eating every two hours is to break into that curve when those hunger hormones are starting to rise in your body.

All foods are allowed, but they say to eat within an hour after waking up and every two hours after. And to stop eating at least two hours before bedtime.

I guess I like this diet mostly because I'm never hungry and I don't have to give up any group of foods. I love my fruit too and the occasional chip or fry as well.
