This was a group of people who purportedly are deliberately semi-starving themselves in order to test the hypothesis that undereating prolongs life.
I weigh more than I'd like to, but damn, did those people look sickly to me!

1. Wow, sorry I missed 60 minutes last night
There's a thread on the Health forum about a story they did last night on resveritrol, the "active ingredient" in red wine that might account for the French Paradox.

I hope I can catch these stories online.

I too have wondered about the extreme calorie restriction, and why is that different from malnutrition?

2. I would like to know if there have been any long term studies on
carbohydrate restriction as opposed to calorie restriction. Also, whether there have been generational studies with the Rhesus monkeys. Supposedly the monkeys that are semi-starved live longer, but I wonder about their children and grandchildren. Also, is their better health due to a lower calorie intake or a lower carb intake?

4. I'll check it out online. I have to say malnutrition is not fun!
I was hospitalized for malnutrition and put on IV feeding (TPN) to get my body back into a healthy state. This was not self imposed as such, just a side effect / complications of other things.

I'm fine now.

caloric restriction is one thing, starvation another.

6. If semi-starvation made a person live longer,
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 12:11 PM by Matariki
why do people in places like Haiti have a life expectancy of 48 years. Show me a place in the world where semi-starving people live long lives.
