2. Thanks. My sponsor wants me to write about what step 1 means to me.
What it means to say "I'm powerless over my emotions" (I'm in Emotions Anonymous). I need to give this some thought. I know how I feel, but now I need to express it, which is probably a good task for me. Makes me really think about my powerlessness.

I'm just glad I have someone as a guide and support.

Thanks for your support, too, AZDem!

5. Explanation on the deleted sub-thread.
I wanted to post this here just to let everyone know that no rules were broken or anything like that - I was just being clumsy and instead of replying to the sub-thread, I deleted it. I apologize for my ham-handedness, and I'm looking into seeing if it can be restored.

In any event, congrats on getting a sponsor! What I wanted to say (instead of deleting the ST) was that I don't see why you wouldn't be able to focus on both powerlessness and unmanageability in working the first step.

:hi: and :hide:

my part of that sub-thread, to figure out what I had done wrong.

Maybe you should turn your moderating over to your Higher Power!! :)

16. Just sent my 1st step essay-thingy to my sponsor.
It seemed really rambly and chaotic. I tried to write about both my powerlessness and the unmanageability of my life. I hope he can make sense of it!!

Thanks, again, everyone for your support!!

drink, pill, or whatever, and you will be okay today!

The important thing is that you took ACTION!!!!!!

20. I'm in Emotions Anonymous
to deal with problems with depression, loneliness, etc. I don't drink or do drugs--I go to bed and sleep for days on end when it gets bad. Or lose my temper at inappropriate moments. Or begin inappropriate relationships. And believe me, these things can screw up a life, too!!

Thanks, SPK!

22. Don't worry about how perfect it is.

Just do the best you can now.

Good for you for getting a sponsor. Mine certainly is vital to my sobriety and I have had the same
one for 27 years! I couldn't do it without her.

I have never heard of writing a first step thing, but when I had to do my fourth step, in my usual
alcoholic grandiosity I worried that it wouldn't be a literary masterpiece. But I did what my
sponsor told me to do and just did it.

Several years later I came upon that thing and laughed so hard I cried. It was hysterical, but an
honest effort for the time.

I got sober in spite of myself, I think.

25. EA has a pamphlet entitled "Step by Step" that actually
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 02:08 PM by mycritters2
has questions to answer while writing out a first step thing. My sponsor sent me a pdf document of it last night. It has questions to answer, about when your emotions became a problem, what ways they've been problematic, stuff about relationships, etc. It's very helpful, and way more thought-provoking than I expected step 1 to be.

I'm becoming really impressed with my sponsor, and more and more hopeful about my recovery.
