I believe I have found my immigrant ancestor for my paternal line.

It took me over 12 years to identify my 2nd great grandfather now in just over 2 years I have found his father and possibly his grandfather (I need more documentation before I can make that claim). It will be hard to prove since 2 of the counties where the records should be are burned counties. John McDonnel of Scotland sailed from Liverpool England Sept 23, 1699 for Virginia. He was 19 years old and had a contract of indenture of 6 years. In 1705 a head right was claimed on his passage for land that is in current day Louisa County VA., New Kent County at the time. John McDonald of Louisa County born about 1735 is my 3rd great grandfather. I have some information on John the elder up through 1746 in Louisa County but nothing that directly connects the 2 John’s other then names location and dates. There do not appear to be any other families of record with our surname in the area around that time.

2. I have ancestors who settled in New Kent, also.

My immigrant ancestor was Thomas Elmore (Elmer) from England. Small world, isn't it?

On edit: A good resource for info for that time is "The Virginia Review".

3. Happy dance time!!! But, as a genealogist, don't you find it kind of sad that
(if you're like me) some relatives just think you're a bit "off" for caring about this stuff? LOL

I make major breakthroughs, call my only sibling to tell her, and she just sighs and wonders why I care........it's all only of mild interest to her.......

But I love this stuff.

4. For many family members that is true but
Our family reunion is over this 4th of July in Nebraska. We have a mini genealogy convention there. There will be a group of us there who are interested.
