Refund on phone tax?
Last year it was determined that the long distance phone companies should not have collected taxes and on this year income tax return we can claim credit, or something.

And we can either use a pre-calculated amount, or use the actual taxes that we pay.

As it happens, I do have all our AT&T statements for the last three years, but am not sure which tax it is.

There are:
Universal connectivity charge
In-State connection fee
Regulatory assessment fee

and then there is a Federal Tax and a State Tax. On this one statement the Federal tax was $0.70 (we do not use the phones that much).

Would this $0.70 be the one to claim - if I choose to go through all the statements and add them?

Thanks

Would this

1. Never mind. Got my answer
I just looked at the invoices for 2006 and saw which one of them ceased to be collected...

2. It'll be interesting to know your results . ..
I had figured the pre-calculated amount would be close enough to use - and certainly a lot easier than to go back through old records. Let us know if you get amy more back by actually doing the work!
