let's hate on doctors
seriously, i would like a little role call of a good/bad ratio of people's experiences with doctors. i think mine, lifetime, just me, is about 1 in 5,654,428. add in my kids, and shrinks, it's 3 in infinity. my kids gastro decided we needed a little tough love about my kid's school attendance, even though we spent most of last year trying to figure out what was making her felt so cruddy. (she has chron's) no answers, just high handed opinions about things they don't take the time to find out about. at least i had the satisfaction of telling her what i thought. i have bitten my tongue so many times. she was one too many. they are the bane of my existence. the bane.
nurses, on the other hand, are the bomb.

1. A quote from my brother, the doc:
"One-third of doctors are sociopaths, one-third are incompetent, and one-third are competent. In otherwords...be very careful."

2. 50-50
And that's going back almost 30 years. I've had 5 doctors in that time, the earliest one I can remember was OK, no more often than I saw him ("Relax! it doesn't sound like the Clap, but we'll get a culture, just the same")

The next guy was OK, talked me into trying PT for my back when I was ready to go under the knife. That was probably a good descision.

Then there was the fellow who wanted me to take "The New Warrior's Training Adventure" to deal with anger issues surrounding my last marriage...S'Yeah, more beat the drum naked in the woods stuff. Little did he know I had already tried and discarded that shit...

Then there was the QUACK who I'm SURE was getting kickbacks from PHARMA. Med not working? Well, lets try another med, and no, you still need to take the one that isn't working....Had me on 4 pills for my BP and 3 for my Diabetes, one of which was making me put on weight ("Hmmmmm...Not doing those 'Push-Aways', are we?")

Now I have a PCP who's actually helping me to get better. I'm really happy with her. kinda cute, too...Big into diet and exercise to control my diseases, so I'm on just 4 pills (and a shot)and I'm losing weight.

3. what you really need is a therapist
how many times have y'all heard this? i heard it several times from my last pcp over the 7 years i was with her. when i finally figured out i had fibro, she said, well, i didn't use to believe in that, but my uncle
is being treated for it and doing well. i need a therapist to deal with my anger at stupid, arrogant docs, try.
oy
it was the gastro's insistence that the kid needed a therapist to "be her advocate" in the school, instead of the hard fought plan for a tutor when she misses school, that set loose the stream of four letter words. she needs to learn to cope with pain, toughen up, learn to function. how about, she needs an answer to why she is feeling so crappy. how about take 15 minutes to discuss what is happening exactly, since i know you have no idea what is actually being provided, or can be provided. she thinks we have had a tutor every missed day for the last 3 years. in fact, after much wrangling, she has had a tutor all of 3 times, period. lots of plans on paper, much head banging over action. but i was just too pissed to even talk. i am trying to cool down enough to call this twit, and inform her of the actual facts here. oy oy oy.

4. My experiences have all been good. I have had some serious health problems
over the years. I am so glad that I don't live in "the good ol days"and live in these times - I would have been dead 40 years ago if it weren't for the miracle of modern medicine.

If I had not been dead, I would have been locked in the attic - because I was "demon possessed" (Epilepsy.) Not to mention crippled, have a huge goiter, blind, and a LOT of other major stuff.

I love and appreciate all the doctors that have contributed not only to me being alive - but to my quality of life.
