Ladies of a certain age - I've tried a lot of things for hot flashes,
but what really seems to do the job is a calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement. I was taking the calcium for my bones anyways, but the magnesium and zinc seemed to really do the trick.

1. NOTHING worked for mine
I snagged an extra Premarin at work, thinking I'd give myself one good sleep on my days off. It's a good thing I saved it until a day off, it was instant migraine. I then remembered why I could never take birth control pills. I don't know if it stopped the hot flashes for a few hours, I was a little preoccupied with the pain and vomiting.

I take lots of Cal-Mag-Zinc with Vitamin D with no effect on the flashes. Herbal stuff did nothing, nor did soy powder smoothies. The phyto estrogen and progestin creams did nothing, not even provoke the hormonally triggered migraine the Premarin did.

The only thing that seems to have helped is time. They've gone from every 41 minutes around the clock to every 2-3 hours on good days and 1-2 hours on bad days. I've learned to wake up, say "FUCK!" and roll over to the cool/dry side of the bed, so my sleeping is better.

If men got these suckers, we might have a real treatment. Hell, they might even have a handle on what causes them and exactly what sort of hormonal cascade we're going through as we turn beet red, want to strip off, and then become drenched with sweat.

As it is, only old, sexually unattractive women get them so nobody in medical research seems to care.

It's crazy. A real, non hormonal treatment for the bastards would make a fortune!
