I have worms. Tell me anything!
I have no idea how I got them, but I have them. Freakin' Worms.

I'll spare you the diagnostic details. It's too disgusting for even my delicate senses, which at one time required me to test cadavers' brains.

I've been sick as eleven dogs since last autumn. I thought I was just exhausted and depressed over taking care of my grandmother in her final months of life. Turns out I may have had these suckers for years. I've had a whole lot of the idiosyncratic symptoms for some time -- itchiness, sore eyes, fevers and chills, sinus infections that could not be cured, broken and raw skin when it got dry, neurological and heart problems (benign, according to the EKG) and lots of other minor, nagging, nasty, and disgusting things.

It may have even "caused" an MS scare I had in the early 1990s.

My question is obvious. Has anyone here had worms? What was the treatment like? And so on.

My doctor tells me it's a one-dose protocol, or I can take a black walnut extract for a few weeks with lots of fiber. Either way, I start tomorrow, and I was told not to make too many plans for about a week that doesn't include being near some decent plumbing.

Share your experiences. I have absolutely nothing to go on, and I worked in medicine for a decade. I'll pop in when I can, and see what advice you can offer, because this is one disease about which I'm clueless.

Worms. Friggin' worms. I have so not been living right.

1. I tried the black walnut years ago and am doing it again now.
There's a neat web site that has a lot of information: www.curezone.com. They talk about a mixture of 3 worm killers in one bottle, which I'm using this time. Apparently the one dose you get from the doctor only kills one type, which the three combined kill lot. But they don't kill tapeworms and ascia (some other disgusting worm). Good luck. They have a forum you might want to see too

2. I had pinworms once. Piece of cake to get rid of.
Sucks...but it happens.

Nothing to be ashamed of.

3. The Worms have turned
After ten days on an OTC black-walnut-based product, I think I'm either worm-free, or close to it.

It was not a nice process, however. I must have had quite a case, First, I felt like I had been poisoned, slept almost all the time, and my digestion just stopped. Then, that reversed itself entirely; finally, about three days ago, I began feeling halfway decent.

I also lost about eight pounds. I'm not sure whether that was eight pounds of worms or a mix of worms and fluid, or what, but I did lose the weight. Plus, I had been voraciously hungry for weeks (during which I did lose a pound or two) but now my hunger is normal -- whatever that may be, it's a lot less than it was two weeks ago.

Of course, I'll keep taking the the herbal worm-killer for a few more weeks at a lower dose to kill the rest, and get all the babies and eggs, too.

So, hopefully, that's it.

4. Didn't the doctor tell you what sort of worms you had?

As you must know, there are many, many species of parasitic worms. I loved studying parasitology but it's true the worms could be rather gross.

5. I don't see anything disgusting about having worms.
We ingest so much bacteria every day, it's bound to happen. Have you ever seen the bugs that cause the flu under a microscope? Ugh.
