Kinda scared about an upcoming surgery
Called a TURP, basically a roto rooter job up the penis and through the obstruction being caused by the prostate.

I wish I could be totally out during this operation but it is necessary to keep me conscious so they will do a local.I hope they give me lotsa morphine!

Any reassurances would be helpful, please no horror story's, you can tell me them after october 26th.....:scared:

1. No horror stories here.
I know someone who had this and it was very successful. I don't think it's the most pleasant experience in the world, but he had lots of drugs during and after, and again - it was a success!

Best of luck to you. I get nervous too before having any kind of surgery; sometimes I wish they could just tell us about it then do it the next day so we don't have to think about it for two or three weeks beforehand. Take care. :pals:

2. thanks flaming youth
I'm a bit of a worrier as it is, and I don't get the full details till the pre surgery meeting on the 19th,

Darn, I'd like some valium just to deal with that. But I must keep reminding myself that it is out of my hands now and any worrying is absolutely pointless. Thanks for the positive post. I know they do alot of these procedures these days, but ya know when it's your own internal plumbing it gets one down....:pals:

3. If they'd done that for my dad sooner, he might still be
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 09:26 AM by WestHoustonDem
with us - he passed away last week.

By the time they did it, his body was so riddled with infection that it was irreversible. But even in his weakened state, the surgery was successful.

Take good care of yourself.

4. So sorry about your Dad Westhouston
As we were discussing in a previous thread, the medical system in this country is broken, it is no longer about caring and nurturing human beings back to heath, it is about assembly line surgery's for maximum profit. A for profit health care system is insane!

My heart is with you westhouston:grouphug:

5. Thanks Pharoah
Although I do feel that he was cared for and nurtured, in his illness, the right steps weren't taken to bring him out of the illness and prevent it from worsening.

Right now I'm suppressing the anger while we are helping my mom through this. But it keeps bubbling up.

Don't know what I'd do without DU. :grouphug:

I do believe it is helpful to send good vibes to people even if you don't really know them, at some deeper level we are all connected:pals:

12. Thanks you guys!
that means alot,......unfortunately things did,nt work out too good. they sent me home with a catheder in as my bladder stopped working after the surgery,
They are going to take it out again monday to see what happens. I'm at my moms house for tonite,I will fill you in more when I get home tommorow.
All I can say is this health care system can be kinda scary, it's more about making a profit than it is about the care of your health.
My surgeon did,nt even have the time to stick his head in the door and say hi,even though I was having problems.

20. Hey Pharaoh!
So glad you're doing better! Awesome news!

My surgery is a week from tomorrow - I have a tumor or a growth of some kind in my bladder. Just found out that they *think* they've ruled out cancer (thankfully), but my doctor isn't really sure what it is. I've been in a ton of pain, had all kinds of weird symptoms and infections, blood in urine, you name it, for a while now. I have a history of kidney stones and scarring, so it could be scar tissue. Like you, it's outpatient... they just throw us out of there.

My fiance will be there with me through it all. I hated telling my parents about the cancer possibility. Like you, my parents aren't in the greatest of health either and they didn't take that very well. But hopefully I'm out of the woods there.

Fun fun fun. It's nice to know that there's some empathy here. And again - so glad that you're doing better now. This is a great group. I'm grateful that we have this safe haven here. :grouphug:
