I don't think we have seen the end of oil-for-food (for one thing, Galloway's just too much of a personality--and a forceful and opinionated one--to just fade away into nothing) or even the Newsweek story.

It may look dark for Newsweek now, but something tells me that someone, somewhere, has either a picture of a Koran being dumped in a toilet, or of one being dumped into a bucket somewhere being USED as a toilet.

And one of these here days, it's gonna emerge.

It will be called a staged fake by many, of course. But it will be real. As real as last year's pictures from Abu Ghraib.

That kind of item, once it has been so thoroughly denounced as even *existing* by so many people, has a funny way of turning up. Because if it does, it will blow the lid off a whole lot. So there are going to be certain people who are going to make a point of seeking it out.

That's the one good thing to come out of all this posturing.

Was feeding Gizzimoto during the first show. He wishes I wouldn't shout at Scottish men. Spent the day at hardware / home supply stores with the hub for him to decide to go where I wanted to in the first place tomorrow. Was worn out and exasperated so spent some calm time feeding poor little starving Gizmo and thinking of how I shouldn't hurt a man for being a frustrating man. But did get 3 red rhododendrons and an oleander and cherry tomato plants...which I have been having an awful time finding. So wasn't a complete waste.

But I was just beat. I also had laundry to retrieve from the dryer and knew I just could not tarry very much longer.

I don't know. All I can say is, again it seemed to me that this night was one of Keith's *heavier* news nights. I did not see him being overwhelmed or undignified in any way, or really making any panderings to sweeps. I thought it was a great show with a lot of hard news up front and hit hard...unlike the times when musings on the Runaway Bride were the #5 leadoff story, for example.

One thing I'm curious about...last week's (and the week before's) "Keith Tells You the Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About ________" theme seems to have gone the way of all flesh before it was even executed once. It's as if they just sort of dropped that idea altogether in favor of the puppet auction/Hall of Fame tack. And that after having promo'ed it heavily. Wonder why.

Anyway, I have NO complaints about Keith now. He's reporting hard, he's blogging hard. A few silly animal stories here and there aren't going to do jack to ruin his credentials, the way I see it. And I *like* seeing that side of him. It's part of why I watch.

Of course, I speak only for myself.

. . . there's no such thing as a bad Countdown show. (And you know, I just realized one has to be very careful when typing "Countdown.")

We may argue about the precise perfect ratio of funny to serious, but we all agree that Keith is the coolest, the bravest, the handsomest, the funniest, and just the greatest -- no matter what they decide to put on Countdown on any given night!
