4. I'm here.
I just posted about the collapse of the wall in Upper Manhattan, my kid's old playground is right next to it. I've been obsessively watching the local news since 5 when I heard it.

I'll go turn KO on now. I need the Florida bit replayed right about now
for yucks.

14. Whole section of wall fell down onto the highway in Upper Manhattan
There were pictures up earlier on MSNBC site. It's all anybody is talking about in Manhattan because the entire highway leading out of the city to New Jersey is closed down. Traffic is snarled for miles, hours of traffic. I've got lots of friends stranded in the city right now but as long as noone was hurt its all OK ( a miracle if noone was, just look at the pics).

Pretty sure KO might have to spend the night in Secaucus tonight unless they fly him back home to the Upper West side by helicoptor.

25. That's awful
With everything else going on today, I haven't heard anyone mention this at all.
I didn't realize you were in NY. We're going to be there for a few days at the beginning of June. It would be fun to meet some fellow DUers if there's a way to get a few together.

34. I'm not in NYC anymore, live twelve miles away in Joisey.
I lived in Manhattan for 20 years though and that was my last neighborhood before we moved. I had a view of the Hudson and the GW Bridge from my apartment so it was just a little further to cross the bridge and move to NJ.

I'd love to meet fellow DU'ers for a cocktail in the city though. PM me when you're coming, I will be in Nashville in June but towards the end.

We'll be there from June 2 through the 5th. We're pretty booked up in the evenings, but have lots of open time during the day. Maybe we can work it out.

45. LOL
Actually, the reason we're going to be there is that one of my cousins is getting married agan -- just a small garden wedding at my aunt's in Atlantic Beach on Thursday night. I'm sure after that evening I'll be ready to get away from some of my relatives -- although it will be nice to see everyone, as I haven't seen most of them for years.

Friday night and Saturday night we have plans with friends from when we used to live there.

and get on the senate floor V. knows that the repugs have the
votes and Bolton will be confirmed.

26. Its really great that they passed this Veterans disability bill
along with the war appropriations supplementary bill. It's the least they could have done.

However, wouldn't it have been nice if they hadn't still tryed to taint a positive effort by sneaking in and attaching the Real ID act to the same bill. A poison pill put into the legislation because the blivet crime family knew the dems couldn't be seen voting against the bill.

Will we ever have single issue bills? This manipulation could not happen if we had them. Of course they will never allow that bill to even get to the floor while they remain in power.

Did anyone see Senator Byrd hand the cat-killer his ass on a platter today on C-Span. I just heard about it. I'm hopeing to see it later. I heard it was incredible.

47. Ok what do you want to bet the FCC or some other uptight numnut
gets bent out of shape that Countdown showed a woman breastfeeding two tiger cubs.

Maybe they won't though, because then we'd have to talk about the anti-choice guy screwing the mules down on the farm in Georgia. Nobody wants that brought up again.

Poor tiger babies, they were so beautiful. It's a shame they couldn't have saved them (they meaning those boobs that were on camera for way longer than I thought they'd try and get away with).

57. I guess we have all learned a valuable lesson from all this.
That it really isn't a good idea after all to breastfeed tiger cubs just because you can.

Something I noticed tonight that I hadn't before...they were doing what kitties like to do when feeding and often do to a soft surface before settling down on it as adults...KNEADING HER with their paws (claws out).

"Oh boy."

Having received the same treatment from my adult cats whenever one decided to settle on me, I can testify that it is a very bad idea with no clothing covering the area.

109. They needed to find out what tigers have in their milk and feed the cubs-
. . . the right formula. There's a big difference between human milk and that of animals -- and from animal to animal, too. Feed a baby squirrel cow's milk and it's fur falls out.

Why didn't Jack Hanna point that out-- wasn't he just on to talk about this, and say he almost tried to talk his wife into doing something similar?

Edited on Fri May-13-05 09:50 AM by gkhouston
kittens do this, too, when they nurse, to stimulate the release of milk. The claws come out part of the way but they don't extend so much that the sharp points come out. Too bad the human milk was indigestible; I guess the fats must be different and the tiger cubs just couldn't break them down properly.

on edit: and if you were the one who worried about the cubs biting her? They can't actually bite while they're actively nursing because their tongues would be in the way, just as with human babies. The trick is to be vewwy vewwy careful when you're getting them latched on and detaching them. :-) (Although to be fair, my daughter never did try her teeth out on me -- perhaps she sensed it would not be in her best interest.)

68. OK folks, I got back to eBay tonight for the first time
and just look at what's for sale now!

Looks like the puppet bidding wars are far from over just because Keith's auction is ending!

First, we have the "Michael Jackson Puppet Theatre Complete Set":

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=554&item=7322239733&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

This seller says the proceeds are going to "a needy family." (Probably their own!!!!)
Bidding is already up to $127.00!

Then there's the "Michael Jackson Puppet Theatre Expansion Set":

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=554&item=7322598916&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

which has far fewer puppets, but includes "analysts" as well as Judge Keith, Plain Keith and Alison (look out ASTB'ers!).

Then there are...maybe we should've seen it coming...the COUNTDOWN Puppet Theatre sets!

The same seller as just above is selling this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=554&item=7322599621&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

which includes Host Keith, Bloggermann Keith, Alison, Monica, a panoply of guests including Howard Fineman, Mo Rocca, Cliff Van Zandt, Michael Musto and Harry Shearer, and extras: William Hung, Bob & Ray, Chris Matthews and the State of Florida!

And if that wasn't good enough, the same seller has a "Nightmare" version...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=554&item=7322605646&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

that features (with Keith) Nancy Grace, Anderson Cooper, James Dobson, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity!

But if that's not enough, there's...Countdown with Keith Olbermann Tribute Puppet Theatre!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1467&item=5580629285&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Proceeds to benefit Celiac Sprue Association also--or so they say! With that one, you get Regular Keith, Howard Beale Keith and SpongeBob Keith, Alison and Monica, Pat Buchanan and Michael Musto, Yankee Stadium for when Keith is on vacation (!), "nemeses" including Nancy Grace, Matt Drudge and The Gates (but I think the Bill O'Reilly is my favorite--check out his loofah and falafel!) and even PROPS (including the paper wad!). Bidding is up to $30.99!

Sheesh! If only we'd known it was so easy to make money on eBay with Keith and a few popsicle sticks and some glue!

I don't think I'm going to be able to resist bidding on these! Or at least jacking up the bids on some of them! :-)

74. They're all pretty funny.
The Countdown Tribute one is cute.

Also comes with "PUPPET-sized “Michael Jackson Puppet Theatre” puppets (mounted on toothpicks) and last but not least, the Wadded-Up Ball of Paper Keith pitches at the camera at the end of the show!"

64. 'Ray for the red suspenders!!
How's everybody tonight?

Dropped another fifty bucks at Wally World today. Only place around here that had everything I needed.

I got some makeup for my trip to NYC the first week of August. I haven't worn makeup in years. What a change! Used to be easier to choose but now, yikes!!!!!!!!! Depressing too, I'm into the over 50 regenerating, wrinkle hiding, line decreasing stuff.

KO wear those suspenders on camera more often!!!!:loveya: :yourock: :applause:

could have a meeting there some day. I have an idea, let's recreate the ending to the movie 'The Shawshank Redemption' and leave something for each other in a secret place in Manhattan.

80. What should we choose?
An autographed photo of KO? Hidden someplace in Central Park? A stash of floatie heart stickers to put on all the bus ads? Don't know how you'd do that without getting run over and/or ticketed. Can't think of anything else right at the moment, anyone have any ideas they'd like to share?

C'mon troops, GPS devices at 50 feet!

What a dark horse, I didn't ever see them as a high bidder -- although I only checked in a few times.

I can't see how anyone else has a chance when they're involved somewhere in the proceedings.

114. As I was saying. . .
they did bid. And the proof it right there on Ebay for all to see. What Inside Cable News meant is that they waited until the last minute to bid and did not previously have a bid entered for the puppets.

They're doing ok - as best as can be expected for old people. :)
I managed to get them to their appointments, fed them a home-cooked meal, and got them to watch 1/2 hour of Keith on Monday (I snickered at the appearance of the grey suit). I even managed to survive computer withdrawl.

How nice that you're the first one to reply when I came back!
