And what he has to confess is that he's posted as me, as well, more than once, because he used this computer and I'm logged on here. Which has worried me, since I've only had one deleted post in 3 1/2 years, and it was on a thread about animals... I'm afraid I can't say the same for him. ;) But I know it was unintentional.:-)

11. Alex Witt was at JFK today, flying cross country!!
I'm not kidding!! I was listening to MSNBC's First Look early news and they said they were going to go to one of their own people who was flying out of JFK this morning on a cross-country flight to see how bad it was at the airport. And they went to...ALEX WITT!

 Let the rumors about HER and KO commence now!

And the irony is, I was listening because I wondered if they'd think of using KO as their airport reporter this morning! But no, they used Alex, who said she was only taking an overnight trip! (Cross country...OVERNIGHT??)

17. For the record, Alex said the airport was not as bad today as yesterday.
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 07:09 PM by BerryBush
She said people knew what not to bring in carry-on today so things went faster. The longest line was at baggage check-in. And men had a very easy time of it because they usually don't bring as many "liquids" in their carry-on bags as women do.

(edited for typos!)

33. OK, does everyone want a new tinfoil-hat theory?
Put on your :tinfoilhat: and listen to this:

On Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal had an article about how planes have been running at such full capacity this summer that people have been getting ruder and ruder about their carry-on baggage (which most people have because wisely no one trusts the airlines not to lose their luggage). For example, bringing things on board that do not exactly qualify--like huge stuffed animals that take up a whole cabin bin. Or putting their carry-ons in places other than the bins above their own seats, which creates a mess when everyone has to get out at the end of the flight and can't even reach their own carry-ons right away.

When I saw that article today, I thought..."So, now we have a terror alert and people are being told they can't bring liquids in their carry-ons anymore...so all of a sudden everyone's checking as much baggage as they possibly can...how convEEEEEnient for the airlines!"

I mean, honestly. Terrorists can use cell phones to set off bombs in their cargo luggage long distance, I heard, so why tell people liquids are OK if they just put them in checked bags? It's all a farce designed to make us FEEL safer just because we had to check our toothpaste! Nonsense!

47. Poor Rev. Guess you'll never make it to Europe, Japan or Australia!
I fly when it's faster and affordable, but people who think it's more convenient or sophisticated than other forms of transportation are kidding themselves. You get treated like cattle any time you travel on a conveyance being operated by someone else. That's just the way it is.

And it makes no one any safer.

There was a woman on our flight back from London last year who boarded the flight witht knitting needles. Knitting needles. This was a UK carrier, but still, how many people have you heard of who stabbed anyone on board with knitting needles? None. How many people could have done this thing with the liquids? How many have?

Why do I still have to take off my damn shoes???

83. Good point, LOL!
People would be in a great mood while waiting, LOL! But imagine the stench if they shared the perfume... Nothing worse in a confined space. I've experienced this while riding in a car with my mother... x(

There's a whole buttload of consequences, but overall, I think the spirit of generosity would prevail.

only on the planes right before people land.

85. You should suggest this to them.
On CNN, earlier today, they talked about going out of business, since most duty-free items are one liquid, or another...

They will figure out some way to keep doing business, I think.

95. That is apparently the thing, unless I misunderstood.
You can bring what you need to, on the plane, as long as it's in checked baggage and not on carry-on...

What was planned was to take place in the washrooms, during the flight.:-(

97. The problem with duty-free is that you buy the items in the airport
of departure, and you usually you carry it on with you (your luggage has already been checked
and the shops are near the gates of departure). So, in a sense, all duty free is "carry-on." Many long flights often have the carts of items that the flight attendants sell during the flight. However, there is no way those carts could have the selection in the duty free stores. The Heathrow airport in London has a huge duty-free shopping area- I wonder how many of those folks had to discard expensive booze and perfume!

I was out getting sunburned on top of a church float. Don't ask. I brought sunblock, but forgot to do my arms after I took off my robe.

The message said she'd be in touch with me soon, since she had a few questions. I got a very high recommendation from my vet.
Then she said something about doing a background check on me (:wtf:???). They didn't ask for references on the application, so I have no idea what that's all about. She didn't say anything about scheduling a home visit, either... and I'm not going to bring it up if I can avoid it.

Of course, I'll let you know as soon as I hear the good news. :)

104. So your church sticks you on a
float for the parade huh? Better you than me. Ouch on the sunburn, hope it goes away fast without peeling. Background check may just mean talking to you about pets you have/had. If they do a home check it is just to see if you have clean litter boxes and all that. Specially with cats you can smell if people don't maintain those. Having elder cats should go a long way and you can prove you know about vet cost, and will take you kitties to the vet. You will breeze through.

Off and on here since Mojo is stumbling around and deciding he wants held about every 15 minutes. At least until he decides to go to sleep.

76. Evening all!!
:hi:

Ok, so now they're thinking they went a tad bit overboard with "all liquids off the plane & in the trash." No shit. Really? I can understand them not letting you past security with those things, but why can't I take something onto the plane that I bought AFTER I CLEARED SECURITY? That makes absolutely no fucking sense at all! Isn't that supposed to be a secured area? Or is all that crap we have to go through just window dressing to make us think we're safer? Because as long as they are not inspecting over 90% of the cargo that goes on the plane, we aren't any safer today than we were two days ago.

I bet Keith was wearing the Garcia tie, but since he's a scamp, he phoned in his report so we couldn't see it.
