See you during the commercials (only one flight of stairs this time, my daughter's computer is unoccupied, an unheard of event with a teenager's pc)

Serve the drinks, park the cars, sweep up the floaties, drive the drunken EDVs home.

We'd be lost without you, Sparks. :loveya:

24. They didn't tell His Fraudulency King of Pretzels about the Cessna
until 1 pm because HE ISN"T THE REAL PRESIDENT, that would be DARTH CHENEY!!!!!

This story seems a little too convenient to be believed considering that the lead story today that should have been screaming from every headline is the sanctioned default on worker's pensions by United Airlines. Instead, surprise, surprise, everyone is talking about the little plane (flown by a flight instructor in Bermuda shorts and his student) that could.

Oh, and the grenade.

150. you are kidding. They didn't play that one in my market unless I missed it
Did see a lovely Exxon Valdeez, I mean Mobil commercial though.
Sure wish they'd have another Halliburton commercial like they had a couple of months ago.

Hey that reminds me, no mention of the 72 million dollar bonus Halliburton just got for their 'service' in Iraq. What is with Countdown tonight. After I just got so excited this afternoon hearing the show advertised on Randi Rhodes show, it has a decidedly non-edgy,infotainment version of itself tonight. Not going to win new viewers that way.

The Florida bit was great though.

257. It was only supposed to be there for unforeseen circumstances --
. . . not as an antidote for corporate greed and irresponsibility.

I keep saying to my husband, if they're going to let corporations legally be "people," those "individuals" need to be required to be ethical. Otherwise, the system will break down. As you suggest, that's what's happening.

31. Please don't tell me they are not even going to cover the United
pension default. That would be so unjust, those people need that story told and focused on somewhere. If KO won't give it a fair shake, who will? From everything I've heard and read today this is only the beginning of this kind of thing, there will be other companies following suit and leaving their employees without pensions.

125. I think the biggest pension default in US history is probably as big a
story as you can get. Wish he'd covered it. It was a glaring hole in the broadcast. We all know it happened, why wasn't it deemed newsworthy tonight. They could easily have not covered MJ tonight. I hope they cover it tomorrow, there will really be no excuse if they don't. KO is supposed to be an alternative to the regurgitated, thinly disguised propaganda pablum on other news broadcasts and even on his own station.

Am I expecting too much?

148. You're probably expecting too much, Bun-Bun.
I sympathize, but let's be real here. KO's auctioning the puppets now, so it was in his self-interest (if you will call it that) to have a big story on MJ and a Theatre tonight.

Along with that, he had his top story of the night dictated to him by, yes, the annoying and possibly wag-the-dog antics going on in DC (which I did not even know about until I came home frrom work).

Give him another day to live up to our expectations of him. It's the least we can do for all he's done to restore our faith in TV news.

And then there's always the blog. It might happen.

Let's try not to think too little yet of the guy who stayed on the Ohio elections story long after others gave up the ghost and considered it laughable.

154. I know you are probably right Berry. It's just that in this political
climate it's too important to strike while the iron is hot, the news cycle is so 24 hours and then it's amnesia time.

I know the puppets are being auctioned but geesh.

I guess he will get the lesser floaties for now. Hope he covers it tomorrow. Looks like the United workers are threatening a strike so the story will still be in the news.

I have decided the next time a man tries to grope me on a crowded bus, I'm just going to speak up nice and loudly, "Will the man whose hand is on my (name body part) please remove it?" or "Will the man whose *youknowwhat* is grinding into me from behind please remove it? Thank you!" Not only will that alert the driver, it will have people moving away from me FAST. And whoever caused the problem will make himself scarce quick.

151. I will never forget the first time it happened to me
It was not even in a city that big. I remember being unable to move, feeling almost like I was being raped in public, wanting to cry, yet saying nothing to the driver because I was too ashamed.

Never again. I once had a guy grab me from behind in a common room in an apartment building when he thought we were alone (sad to say I think I allowed him to "let himself in" behind me without meaning to) and I just wrenched my arms out as hard as I could and screamed at him to leave me alone and he dropped me and ran. Never did find him, but damn it, I saved myself. Some instinct told me to go to that room and not to go to my apartment no matter what. I credit that instinct with saving me--that and the fact that he was unarmed. I just wish I had listened and pulled the door tight behind me rather than letting him grab it while it was still open and letting himself in.

And getting onto the ELEVATOR with him was too stupid. God I was lucky.

157. Had a similar thing happen in my last apartment building in NYC.
I just managed to get into my lobby with my key from the vestibule with a six foot 4" maniac right behind me ( I kid you not, he was that big). I pretended I was talking to someone in the lobby while he rattled the door trying to get in after me. I never even let him know I was frightened, waited until the elevator came and got into my apartment to start crying. Something made me think that I should invent an imaginary person to be talking to out of his range of sight. I still don't know how I was calm enough to do it, it made him leave. Instinct just kicks in sometimes. Glad you had it too.

and didn't he use another SportsCenter catch phrase tonight?

Besides "Be there. Aloha"?

Now it's escaping me.

On edit: And I loved that he quoted one of my favorite quotes from "A Christmas Story": "'FRA-GI-LAY.' Must be Italian!"

More things to love:

1. Watching my many tapes this past weekend so I could label them (I HATE that the show isn't dated every night like network news!). The eulogy to Bubba the 100-Year-Old Lobster, featuring pictures of Bubba over the years posing with various figures from history while Sarah MacLachlan's "I Will Remember You" played, had me on the floor again. But the real killer was the very ending statement Keith almost threw away grudgingly: "Oh well. At least he saw the Red Sox win." ROTFL!!!!!!!

2. The header they put on the #1 story the other night about born-again virgins: "Brideshead Revisited."

When you find yourself forgetting, remember these and remember why you love the show.

because in the Twinkie defense they were essentially saying, this guy was heavily depressed and that's why he committed the murders. Look how depressed he was, he was so depressed all he could eat was junk food.

They didn't say the junk food caused him to kill, only that his consumption of it was evidence of his profound depression. Still a totally lame defense.

The other night with the Tucker Carlson thing (which I honestly did not intend to post at the same time) and now this.

This morning when I first saw the picture of the King Tut "conception" in the paper my first thought was "He looks like Boy George. Not now so much, but back in the day." Then this segment came on and Keith was saying "combination of Barbra Streisand and Sinead O'Connor." When they superimposed the Barbra picture I thought "Boy, that IS uncanny!" But when Keith said "A little Boy George too!" I screamed! I thought "My shout-out for the night!!"

But I guess I wasn't the only one!

77. Am I just imagining it or does it seem to be light news a great deal
of the show now. The first eleven to fourteen minutes before the break are top news stories, then Oddball, then MJ coverage and then Keeping Tabs. They are making him do too much Entertainment Tonight type stuff and allowing him to cover less political stuff. That's the snarkiness that I watch for. I hope this trend doesn't continue. They could lose Oddball or Keeping Tabs or combine them somehow, together they take away too much time from other important stories.

and I was going to say, Abrams was almost approaching Planet Olbermann today.

Even earlier when I was watching his show--he was putting on the snark. Playing one of Robert Blake's tapes where he was talking about all the celebs who are supposedly huuuge fans of his and would testify for him and help him get off. After one of his comments about how the Baldwin brothers were supposedly big fans of his, Abrams gave a pregnant pause and said "Aren't we all?"

Maybe there is hope for him.

of what we want to see on this year's "My Favorite Things."

I must hang my head in shame and admit I did not tape last year's show and didn't even get to see it because I was out.

So far, my top vote getters are definitely the Network rant, all the MJ Puppet Theatres (he should have a mass screening of them all at once), the two "Papal Conclave Puppet Theatres," the Jose Canseco PPV "commercial" (his first parody that ever put me on the floor), the Salute to Florida and the Tribute to Bubba the Lobster.

And he will have a deck built around the pool or he will wish he was dead because I will be a screaming meany myself. Been waiting for the pool deck for 2 years. Lumber in the yard. He is a good man he just doesn't seem to be able to finish anything...like the house. Mind you I have to help but that is fine long as it gets done. Course we will fight because he will not listen to something that makes since, mess up doing it his way only to have to do it my way. He can be dense, but then he is male.

Unless you happen to find that rare breed of male that does projects on time and right (a neighbor has one and had to gall to complain...we all set her right on that) I think its a y chromosome deformity. Friday won;t be here until late because I am taking pictures of the nurses pinning ceremony. I also need to be there for their practice so I know where to set up the lights. Making hubby play photo assistant too. I get to be boss and he can't argue. smiling

10. Its the litter boxes that will tell you when you hit ferret max, and well now will say the vet bills. They also get rabies and distemper shots yearly so a regular vet bill there. (though trying to talk the vet into a titter test so they don't have to get so many shots. Worry about over vacination)

after about 3 days together it hurts your nerves. He calls a lot. So much we got a cell phone plan with lots of free minutes...but even on the road he can time his calls to when I am busiest. Truckers can not remember their wives schedule. Thought it was just a friend of ours before but now know it is the job makes them incapable of remembering.

BTW I am a second wife...and he wanted an independent woman,,,and got it. Sometimes I laugh at him and tell him he only got what he wanted. Also I just went and got the first to ferrets and told him one was his xmas present when he got home.

220. Well I knew he wouldn't mind.
And it was the first xmas after Beau was killed. He didn't want a tree etc. so I went along with that once. It didn't help, really made it worse. So I got Gizmo and Pixel for each of us for xmas. And they did help. As for decisions, most major ones are talked about but in the end he tells me to decide. His first wife couldn't make a decision to save her life. And we have been married 20 years so we know what each other can tolerate pretty well.
