Meet Snap.
Edited on Sun May-08-05 09:10 PM by Clark2008
Guess what I did?

I took Ramzey over to the dog pound and, well, we have a new puppy. She's not with us tonight because they have to put in her microchip and give her her final examination (she's already been fixed), but she'll be coming home with us tomorrow.

She looks just like our Blue, only smaller. And, well, she's a she. I've never owned a female dog before. Should make it easier for me to get Trooper used to her, though. LOL!

Her name is "Snap." That was the name given to her at the pound and it fits her. She's very "snappy." :)

I figured I'd celebrate my new job, Mother's Day and get Ramzey an early birthday gift (his birthday is Saturday).

I've cleaned out Blue's old kennel and Mom's said she'll come and let her out mid-day when she picks Ramzey up from school until Snap gets better housebroken.

She's about six to eight months old - already has her adult canines and has been through MOST of the "chewing" stage, so that's good.

She's about 25 pounds and will probably be about 40 to 50 fully grown.

She was rescued as a stray and now will have a nice home with a little boy and a half acre of fenced-in yard (in the back - I have an acre total) in which to run and play. And she'll also have a big brother in Trooper. :)

Oh, and we didn't pick her - she picked us. We walked through - I was looking for a smaller dog, maybe a cocker or beagle mix. But she kept licking her cage every time we'd walk by and Ramzey kept saying, "Look Mom! That one looks like Blue!" So I asked to see her. They brought her out and she jumped on Ramzey and started licking his face.
Well, that was it.
:7
She knew who was doing the picking today, didn't she? Hee hee.

Here's her pound picture. Isn't she a ringer for Blue-blue (only smaller - she's much smaller at her age than when Blue was six months old)?

P.S. The microchip thing is new. It's still included in the very low price of $65 to adopt a puppy - that includes the spay/neuter, the shots, the examination and any wormer/other meds she may have to come home with. I'm not sure I like the microchip thing, but I take a 15 to 20 minute course on it tomorrow when I pick her up, so I'll know more then.

2. I thought so, too.
Ramzey got me a silver necklace and matching earrings, which is always nice to get. :)

And, he woke me up this morning telling me how much he loved me and "Happy Mother's Day." He's not old enough to fix me breakfast in bed, yet, but he drew me cards and minded all day long! He even helped me as I bleached the mold off the house (it attracts it every winter and we're allergic to it - believe me, I'm feeling it tonight, but now the dad-blasted stuff is GONE) and bleached the kennel for Snap's arrival.

He helped me water my Mom's plants that had been neglected through my Gran'ma's ordeal and even picked up his toys out of the den floor. :wow:

He's my best Mother's Day gift. His birthday is always either on Mother's Day or near it.

6. Great Mom's Day/Ramzey b-day gift.
I knew there was a puppy out there calling to you and Ramzey. She does look like Blue but female spayed dogs are so much easier then males, even neutered ones. The chip is not a bad idea. If she ever got lost most vets and the SPCA can run a reader over them to find out who they belong too. That is a very good thing since you just never know. They are also safer than a collar since a collar can get hung up on something or fall off. Great SPCA rate there too. Here it is $150.00 for a dog and 100.00 for a cat. But then their fees are most of what supports them here. Very little county money goes to them and that gets wiped out on checking wild animals for rabies.

9. You really want to know what bothers me?
It's the tattoos they put on them now.

She's already got a tattoo from the spay. Now she'll have one from the microchip. It just very much reminds me of Nazi Germany - seriously. My Mom said the same thing.

I don't think its wrong - the spay/neuter (obviously, I'm a member of the Humane Society and sat on the board pre-Ramzey) or the mircochip. It's just those tattoo'ed numbers on her belly irk me. My grandparents had many friends who had those on their wrists and chests and, well, it's just freaky too me.

Hopefully, her fur will grow to cover it.

16. I didn't know they tattooed them
too. Can understand why it would bother you, not sure I like it either. I'm not happy with the tattooed dots in some ferrets ears. One for spay/neuter and one for desenting in Marshall Ferrets and understand some other places have red or triangles.

4. I am so happy for you!
I was going to post last-night (I kid you not) that the really great pets choose you, not the other way around. That's how I got my three beasties all at once.

I'm glad things are finally turning around for you, Clark.

As for your son - it's no surprise that he's so loving, because we all know his mama (and she's pretty amazing).

I had a feeling something like this was going to happen. Congratulations on your new joy and glad you and Ramzey had such a great Mothers' Day!

11. Oh, how sweet
Edited on Mon May-09-05 12:49 AM by Clark2008
I don't feel very amazing.

I feel overweight and out-of-shape. I don't fair well, not working, and have gained weight since being at home. However, Trooper's gained weight, too, and now there will be a puppy to have to exercise.

I've decided that, on Tuesday, I will cut back on my food consumption (that's easier to do when I'm working, without a fridge sitting in the next room) and will go the whole 100 feet to the park one house down and walk the dogs and run the energy out of Ramzey.

I need to lose, in total, about 15 to 20 pounds. I can carry weight well because I'm muscular, but it's settling now and, well, I don't like it.

But, I thank you for believing I'm amazing. Your kind words make me think that I surely can be!

I know you are!

Thanks you gals (the guys are great, too) for always being around for a laugh and a nudge and a sexual innuendo or two. ;)

Now, when's the first KOEB Conference scheduled? :7

12. Clark, regarding your new regimen --
. . . I receive a health tip from RealAge in e-mail every day, and here's todays!

Indulge your sweet tooth with a heart-healthy treat.
Dark chocolate may help lower blood pressure and improve insulin sensitivity in healthy people, a recent study concludes. Flavanols are likely the source of dark chocolate's health powers. They relax blood vessels and stimulate glucose absorption. Remember to eat chocolate in moderation; it's still high in fat and calories.
RealAge Benefit: Getting the right amount of antioxidants through diet or supplements can make your RealAge 6 years younger.

13. Thanks WG, but I don't have much of a sweet tooth
Edited on Mon May-09-05 01:40 AM by Clark2008
Is there a RealAge adage about cheese? LOL!

Also, diabetes runs in my family, so I tend to watch the sweets - now if I could just watch the bread. Oooohhh boy! LOVE bread and cheese!

Oh, and when I do eat chocolate - it's dark. I LOVE dark chocolate because, well, it's not a sweet as milk chocolate. Like I said, my sweet tooth is practically non-existant. I have a cheese tooth.

:hi: Rev! (Speaking of cheese!)

14. About the diabetes --
. . . My husband has type-2, and that detail in the piece I just posted about dk chocolate improving insulin sensitivity and stimulating glucose absorption caught my attention. But if you're not a chocolate lover, that's not going to apply to you!

RealAge has sent me some interesting tips regarding the value of dairy foods. Here's one I found containing the word CHEESE:

- - -
Make sure that you're getting enough calcium in your diet.
A large study in New York found that PMS patients who took 1,200 mg per day of calcium carbonate had only one-half as many symptoms after three monthly cycles.
You can take a calcium supplement or load up on calcium-rich foods like milk, CHEESE, yogurt, salmon, and broccoli.

7. This was a great story to read late at night, Clark --
. . . We can all go to sleep and dream of puppies (or Keith) running up to us and licking our faces!

Wow, this has been a great week for you, hasn't it? You sure have it coming, though, after all the sadness and suspense you've had to deal with.

I'm just tickled with your getting just the right job and just the right dog, all in the same week!

:loveya:

15. Congratulations on new puppy!
What a sweetie, you will like having a female this time. We have only had female dogs & cats too. We've never had any females who wanted to 'mark' there territory. Isn't it something, how animals decide who they want to be their owners.
